from here ?

RUSA: PBP 1995 Checkpoints

More-or-less right, I'd say.  With a control at Dreux between Mortagne & StQenY on the way home rather than Nogent, and a likely overall distance nearer 1220

Yes from the rusa site...but I changed the days.

The timings seem a bit awkward for the first night stop. You are almost forced to ride to Loudeac.

Loudeac wasn't a problem for us last time, despite a significant degree of faffage and some good long control stops.

You might be there too early...

Maybe I'm late to the party, but nice to see you're joining us in August.

We (the usual three of us) are going with the race to brest, tour back plan. 30 hours should see us to the start of our holiday riding east. Wanna join in? We might even let you take the GC (but we'll fight for the intermediate sprints).

Is the column on the left your target arrival time for the controls?

If so, I have concerns.

You are in danger of arriving too early unless you limit yourself to <35kmh rolling speed between controls. Are you sure you can exercise this level of restraint?

Oh, and a word to the wise regarding the offer of a tow to Brest by Mr & Mrs Hopper. Postie tried this option on the Dean but they made him stand on the corner of a lane whilst they had some 'private time' together. All very humiliating as I think he was expecting to at least watch if not lend a hand in some way.

Think on.

Cheers Paul, but I'm planning on buzzing mattc for the entire ride.

Wanna join in?

Hopefully I'll have at least 7 hours head-start on you. May the best man win!

Nah, 30hrs to Brest includes 8hrs sleep and an hour at every control.

Relax a bit. I've never looked at control times, just ridden at a reasonable pace. I only discover what times I managed when the card comes back.

I am relaxed, but I need to have an idea of control times to book accomodation. I know I can do the distance in 84 hours, but I would like to do it with three nights of 8 hours rest/sleep   ;)

P.S. Plus I'm not sleeping in a vast hall full of stinking, snoring, farting old men.

It might be quite tricky to find accommodation close to the route, near Loudeac.  There isn't much, and much of it was booked up a while back.

It's possible that some may be freed up when people on the 90 hour start realise that Loudeac doesn't work too well with the new start times...

In 07 I successfully minimized the time spent in such facilities.

The similarities between our plans probably ends there ...

Is there a separate room for ladies then?  We are perfumed, and of course neither sonre nor fart.

When I was a kid I had a Ladybird book on Florence Nightingale. In it a picture of Scutari hospital - rows and rows of beds as far as the eye could see. When I walked into Loudeac in '07 at about 9.30pm and got a bed, that illustration came rushing back to me. The picture came to life. The grunting, snoring and smell of 300+ sweaty, farting men was something not to be forgotten - or repeated. I tried to sleep but the senses were assailed from every direction and I gave up and got back on my bike!

I've no objection to shared farcilities but one snoring farting man is quite enough!! From then on sleeping facilities werre avoided in favour of any floor or bench will do.

I did get a bed in a "ladies" room at Dreux after a controller there refused to let me leave before I had had a couple of hours sleep - after being caught with my face in my croissant -  And that was absolute bliss. ;D

I've never figured this.  Some people just seem to let themselves go on these events, and stink to high heaven. There are showers available, FFS, and it's not that difficult to have clean clothes for every day.

It's even in the rules somewhere!
(but I think after even 10 hours on the bike, some folks will get pretty stinky.
Not ladies of course - they merely glow).

I might get a doctors certificate that I neither snore nor fart - i then expect to be allowed entry to the Unisex Quiet Dorm. (it's only a small minority that snore properly, but sadly they really do ruin it for the rest! Earplugs pretty much do the job for me, especially if I have a few 100km in my legs. )

Indeed, can't complain about that; it's the going-to-bed-with-no-shower and putting-the-same-shirt-on-next day that I struggle with the concept of.  Hell, in 2007 I even shaved every morning !

I'd go further and add 'have a shower' to the top tips for longer rides (600+). The showering facilities during PBP 2007 were good (including cheap hire of towels and shampoo). It really helps in breaking up the ride and I felt like a new rider after each of mine.

Unfortunately, the almost continuous rain meant that my shoes never really lost their odeur, so apologies to anyone who had to suffer in my wake.
