I know it's a brand name and probably exempt from crimes against spelling, and I'm clearly biased against the company on account of their crappy products, but "DeafGard" (an acoustically-triggered fire alerter that frequently doesn't) and "DorGard" (a device that uses the same technology to close doors in response to random loud noises).

Makes me wonder how the U got into guard in the first place.  It's not necessary to harden the G and it derives from French garder which hasn't got one.

ETA but that derivation is from Chambers.  This is more interesting.

A friend has posted a Ryvita health quiz and video on Facebook.

The comments seem to show this product spelt as 'evita' & 'gravitas' ...

I'm heartened that someone is considering the future of xylophones.

TOBAGO from the Independent:
Quote
But, like the PPU, it endured. In 1989, it formed the foundation of the Velvet Revolution – a name referencing both its peaceful “iron fist in a velvet glove” nature and its roots in the music of The Velvet Underground – which saw half a million people gather in Wenceslas Square demanding freedom, ommunism crumble in Czechoslovakia and Havel himself become the first president of the democratic Czech Republic. So vital was music to the revolution that, for a brief time, Frank Zappa became one of Havel’s official cultural advisors.
I'm going to make an ommunism crumble tomorrow. Better than apple or rhubarb.

Given your location, should this be an 'amusing translation error'?

Nah, it was split across the two rear doors. The right-hand one didn't quite match.

That's how it's pronounced anyway, isn't it? It's phonics for financial services. Ay-brrr-d'n.

nikud is a dot or tittle.
That's the point innit?

Nikudim are both vowels & punctuation, I think.

If I recall they're diacritics in Hebrew used to signify vowels (I don't think standard Arabic bothers). I learned something from my ex (not proper Jewish, her mother was a lapsed Mennonite, complex family, oh the stories I could tell).

Someone cleverer than me will be along in a moment to correct me. It was a shit joke though, so I wasn't passing it up. I'm here all week, people.

They are. Ham is a more learned scholar here (and I think he also knows Arabic).

Hebrew has diacritics as vowels for beginners and in the classical Hebrew of prayer books, where is also sometime Aramaic.

Modern Hebrew mostly does without.
