Looks like fun ... any prizes for coming last?
-
Honour and glory, that is the price whether you win or loose.
-
I'm in.
-
In. I'm Professor Paniagua
-
In. it's difficult, isn't it. I think Froome will win but I'm not sure I can afford him.
-
I'm hedging my bets on neither Froome nor Quintana figuring in the podium places. It could all go horribly wrong for me very early.
-
It's an importent decision isn't it?
-
I'm in. "ACME Beer and Data Science Pro Cycling"
Picked by the simple process of
- sampling ~500,000 random teams of the right shape (approximately a whopping one millionth of a percent of all valid teams, if I calculate correctly)
- throwing away any teams that cost too much
- fuzzy matching the names against the UCI individual ranking list and summing up the UCI ranking scores for each valid team
- selecting the team with the highest overall total score
So it will probably tank badly!
-
In. I expect mid-table mediocrity, as always :P
-
My team's "Be More Mike".
-
Entered. Team OD on everyfing.
-
Well the Bathgate Alps Grimpeurs are down to 8 riders already, it's a shame for the race that Valverde crashed out, broken kneecap according to another thread ... Ouch!!!
-
The decision to pick Thomas for my team is already looking like a good one. Yay!
-
Top of the yacf Velogames league after stage 1, I'd like to declare now and go straight to Paris, please.
-
Joint second!
-
The decision to pick valverde did not pay off. I also picked iziguire, which would means two abandons in 14 miles, go me! (to make matters worse I think I swapped them in in a move that swapped out Thomas). Lanterne rouge here I come.

It's worse - it was 14km, not even 10 miles!
-
They could/should have walked that!

Progress so far:

Very consistent progress by Bernster and huggy at the pointy end of the field.
-
I'm guessing anyone with a less mainstream sprinter will be picking up more points than expected now :-\

Very glad I picked Matthews as well as Sagan!

My team couldn't afford Sagan and I only went with Cav as my sprinter :'(
-
After a strong start, I'm slipping back down the table already - Sagan's gone, Thomas has lost yellow, Porte was found out on the climb yesterday and Landa is AWOL. The rest of my riders are makeweights, apart from Matthews, so all my hopes are now riding on him.
-
Ha! I've moved up to third spot!
-
Team Keen start to draw ahead whilst my ACME Beer and Data Science Pro-Cycling are propping up the bottom with The Score of the Beast.
Ha! I've moved up to third spot!
Not any more!

"Come on Tim!" continues to make consistent progress, rising another place (the third round in a row - first place by round 8?).

You're doing well Oaky! One day very soon I'll buy you a pint and you can tell me in intricate detail how you selected your team. I expect the same level of detail as your interweb search algorithm explanation which we all enjoyed so much ;D
-
I've now lost Sagan, G & Porte from my team. I will give up now.

If it's any consolation, you're not the only one.

At this rate of retirements I won't have a team riding in to Paris....

"Come on Tim!" now breathing down the neck of Team Keen.
ACME Beer and Data Science Pro-Cycling are inexplicably not last. Normal service will probably be resumed after the rest day.

"Come on Tim!" overtake "Team Keen".
"Team Keen" and the "Helmet Hair Mob" drop off in their progress slightly whilst "Down the hill" continue to make very consistent gains each round and look like they could overtake "Helmet Hair" and/or "Team Keen" soon.

Great work, Oaky, but I'm struggling to maintain an interest now that I have hardly any team members left!
-
How the fuck am I in the lead?
-
How the fuck am I in the lead?
Because quite clearly you are a world renowned authority on bicycle racing
-
I dunno why I have the straightest boring line on the chart, but at least I seem to be gradually breaking away from the grupetto.
Just wish I could have at least one nice wavy curve, hopefully going up just a little bit.
-
"Come on Tim!" drops "Team Keen" and is now the sole breakaway. "Team Keen" drops back towards the Peloton.
It looks like there's a aplit in the Peloton - with "Be More Mike" dropping from the first group to the second.
The Autobus is chugging along nicely at the back.

Impressively linear.
"Down the Hill" are also impressively linear, with a slightly steeper slop, and have consequently made it to the beak of the pelicanfront of the peloton.

I'm down to two riders scoring my points, the rest are out or hopeless

Stage 14 Update:
"Come on Tim!" still going very well. >500 point lead and doing equally well on sprint, mountain and transition stages although "Outrageously High Haematocrit" look like they're gaining slightly, and have moved into second.
Just wish I could have at least one nice wavy curve, hopefully going up just a little bit.
Relayer now has his nice wavy curve, going up a bit!

Yay! I'm happy now. I might even get over talking myself out of picking Kittel.
-
I think our fate is sealed, the loss of Richie and Cav hasn't done us any favours. If we finish in the middle of the pack I'll be happy.
-
My team is liking the hilly stages much more than the flat ones.
Our secret is helium in the tyres, you know.
-
That's more like it: 1, 2 and 4 on the stage for ACME Beer and Data Science Pro-cycling
Edited to add: Stage 15 Rank: 15 of 54711 :D! (compared to: Overall Rank: 31002 of 54711 :/ )
You are in a maze of twisty flat droves, all alike.

Mollema finally getting involved for me.... Haematocrit levels are rising!
-
Stage 15 Update:
"Come on Tim!" ahead but suffering a mild slowdown.
"Outrageously High Haematocrit" report to the anti-doping tent please.
Just wish I could have at least one nice wavy curve, hopefully going up just a little bit.
Relayer appears to have resumed linearity.

Relayer appears to have resumed linearity.
Aye, Nairo Quintana has run out of gas again, and Sky have put the shackles on Mikel Landa. Maybe they'll get some of their Bathgate Alps form back in time for the French imitations and get some decent results there. ;)
-
Stage 17 Update:
"Come on Tim!" and "Outrageously High Haematocrit" looking like the likeliest winners, being comfortably ahead of the bunch.
Relayer update: still linear
Primoz Roglic continues to drive "ACME Beer and Data Science Pro-Cycling" up the ranks towards mid-table mediocrity.
