But if you order by old fashioned telephone from your small local co-op, don't be surprised if they pack two tins of beans instead of one.  Because they have noticed they are on offer!

Well, it seems Vodafone really do want to kill off PAYG. £20 used to last my wife 6 months, but as of a couple of weeks ago there is a £1 a day charge even if you don't use the phone - then "unlimited" for the rest of the day. We did get advsed, but I naively assumed it only applied to days the phone was used on the network, a bit like £4 a day charge that got levied when roaming in certain countries. Gee, thanks for nothing. Up to then 90% of her usage was on the home WiFi so attracted no charges at all, hence the long life of her credit. So, time to convert her phone to a cheap SIM only contract I think. I doubt Vodafone will be the last operator to do this. Others already make you top up monthly by not rolling over PAYG credit - so a defacto contract with variable payments.

ETA: My perusing of SIM only deals, including on the Vodafone website, might have, Big Brother stylee, have born3 fruit, as an email arrived this evening, offering discounted deals to existing customers to swap from PAYG to contract, the cheapest being a £7 a month deal with 500Mb of data (wife uses virtually none) and unlimited minutes and texts. I shall check more carefully tomorrow.

I kept an old non-smart phone as a back-up (and because it is small), and have an EE contract for £1 a week.
I think it starts at about 30mins calls, some texts and a bit of web.  Every few weeks, you can get a bonus of x minutes, texts or web. Can stop any time, but if you re-start you lose the bonuses.
That's not a lot more than £20 for 6 months.

Worth checking out Giffgaff. You can mix and match PAYG with buying a £6 bundle for a month at a time.

Whoever wrote the Tesco home delivery substitutions algorithm.

I believe the algorithm is based on the level of fuckits in the person doing the picking.

My mother ordered Bicarbonate of Soda and got Baking Powder...
(However I think the person who asked me if mixed spice was a suitable substitute for mixed herbs was my then boyfriend, now husband, who is at least available to be educated...)

Those beastly Brazilians have gone and added a couple more countries to their map mod for ETS2.  Now I have to mend another dozen mods to keep Unwanted Stuffs out of Venezuela :(

What a pain!

It might have been proper snow up in Aberdeen though, not the excuse that cancels Sainsbo's deliveries to us Souther jessies...

The van probably would have been fine on the main roads but not so great round the housing areas and we live on a cul de sac that never clears quickly. So Pingu is going to brave click & collect tomorrow. We probably could have managed for lunches and dinners until next Tuesday but I'm not sure I could cope without prunes and oranges for a whole week. (Yes, I know, TMI).
Anyway, it'll give Pingu something to do being as he's still practising being retired.

Of course we didn't find out until *after* we'd cleared the steps of certain death and the path round the side of the building.

When Sainsbury's cancelled our delivery cos SNO, there were 9 buses per hour in each direction past our house and no discernible whiteness on the carriageway.
Our drive is big enough for a van but...
No figs this week AGAIN.

Of course I'm not up yet.  It's only 10:30*.  You know full well, Aged Papa, that were sloth and indolence an Olympic sport I'd have a hatful of gold medals and a knighthood by now.  So why phone me at such a ludicrous hour?

I know this one, is it because he is an old person and has been awake since 5am and is bored of waiting for it to be time to be talking to the youf?

It'd be nice to get some post soon. It's been ten days since I last saw a postman and it's not as though we're out in the sticks or anything.

Harrumph.

He did cut my hair last spring, but I feel like I need to give him a bit more length to deal with. By which time it'll be *really* pissing me off.

My offers to cut Her Hair have been continually rebuffed. Her bob has gone bad, it's the Twin Peaks of hair. When she turns over in bed, I scream. It's like I'm in The Ring.

I decided 'New Year, New Hair' and lopped off around 10 inches/25cm on 1 January 2021.

I was watching a You tube vid of a woman cutting her own hair with a pair of proper Wahl clippers a while back, and I was tempted but then I realised there was too much potential for me to get annoyed mid job and do a Britney Spears mid MH crisis job.

I am also desperate to cut Pingu's hair but he keeps ignoring my offers.
(Maybe my Mum told him the story of the day I decided all my Tiny Tears and Sindy dolls were panny and gave them all a hair cut. I don't think she ever forgave me...)

Whereas I got bored and (with some help) did this:

Alas that was a couple weeks ago and the dye that was meant to last 6-8 weeks lasted about six days. But it was cool whilst it lasted and I have 2/3 of the jar left

Very good. I'm refusing to dye mine at home cos I don't want to splatter my lovely white bathroom with red, which would be inevitable.

During lockdown 1 my brother's wife got my brother to cut her hair . . . using the clippers she uses for her HORSE (I understand that she did boil them first) . .  the result wsn't that bad considering.

My own wife has rejected my offers of hair cutting . . . she's hopeful that "Mr Kevin" her hairdresser for over 30 years will be open again soon.

On the plus side, at £145 a cut, I probably shouldn't be complaining that I'm being stalked by the woman from The Ring.
