Ask them why you have not been given a paravertebral block or even an infusion.  Should be standard of care these days. Also lignocaine patches can be used

Sorry for to hear, Cycleman. Broken ribs can be very uncomfortable.
When I broke mine for the first time, I was taking flying lessons at the time and had at that point, never taken any kind of pain killers in my life.
Went to A&E, they looked at and went "Well, it might be bruised or it might be broken"..I knew it was broken as I could feel it moving!.
Anyway, they prescribed me some painkillers. At the pharmacy, I asked "I'm flying this weekend, can I still take these?"
She went "Sure! No problem". A couple of days later, I managed to realy re-tweak it, got searing pain and popped one of the pain killers....and shortly after I was conked out on the sofa and figured I should most definitely not fly on these!
It took me awhile to figure out that the pharmacist obviously thought I meant going flying as a passenger, not as a pilot...

I was thinking intercostal block but posted that I thought Pain People might be tied up with CovidCare.

Certainly, regional blocks are the way I'd want to go with rib fracture pain.

I can't blame cycleman for being scared of his bowels!

Still no bowel movement. I will take another movicol this morning but I don't think that I should eat breakfast till i have had one 🤔.
They put a patch on the broken rib side  last night. No idea what it was. They have taken it off now.

that would be the lignocaine patch.  Local anaesthetic absorbed through the skin

And now I'm back home with just paracetamol and naxproxin . Hope I don't end up going back in.

Buggered my left knee schlepping wood up from the cellar and groceries & dogfood up from the car.  Pain under kneecap when I e.g. push my foot into a shoe or go down stairs, and pressing a pedal is ouchville.  Yesterday pain was on inside top, today it's on outside top.

And it just so happens that this week we've got excellent cycling weather for the first time since 2nd January. Am not amused. :(

Rib pain is now under control but now my lower back is playing up  :( when I had a ct scan in hospital they said that I had some old trauma to my lower spine. Hopefully when covid is less of a problem I will have to see if there is anything that can be done to improve the back. I'm not that hopeful though 😕

My wife’s bipolar, and recently had some additional blood tests, diabetes and cholesterol included. Unexpectedly today one of our GP’s phoned, and told her she had high cholesterol and they were putting her on statins immediately  :-\. She’s 77, 8st 5lb, teetotal and non smoker.  Spends all the time she can gardening. So just age related it seems.

May be worth asking for a repeat, making sure it is faster and asking what the ratio is. Ratio is far more stable important.

I’ll mention fasting to her for next time, although that doesn’t seem to be a usual requirement these days. She has a retest in 4 weeks, and as bipolar gets quarterly tests anyway, to which I would expect them to add cholesterol now. She was pissed off. Another tablet to add to lithium, thyroxine and prophylactic antibiotics.

I am not surprised she is fed up.

This sounds like a knee jerk reaction from the GP and the easy way out.  Absolute cholesterol is much less important than the ratio of HDL:LDL.
Also the numbers needed to treat with statins to save one life is in the thousands so unless there are other significant causes of increased risk for heart disease relevant to your wife then she may decide to live with the risk.

Also does she eat a moderately ketogenic diet as that will push up your cholesterol but is not dangerous as the ratio goes in the right direction.

I think you need a zoom discussion with the GP about absolute and relative risk and what the benefit to your wife actually is.

Also before just adding statins have they checked her TSH levels as even mildly low TSH and can raise the cholesterol.  Also lithium can raise cholesterol but may not increase risk.  That seems much less known and I am very much outside my specialism now so these all need to be discussed with the GP

Achievement hit: fifteen barbell squats (3 sets of 5 reps) at 65kg which is bodyweight.

I have done that (and slightly more) in the past but not for many years.
Miles cycled 2014 = 3551.5 (Target 7300 :()
Miles cycled 2013 = 6141.4
Miles cycled 2012 = 4038.1

Thanks Chris, I'll see if I can persuade her to get her full results. The GP in question is also by way of a good acquaintance / ex-neighbour, and certainly has her best interest at heart, however he isn't her GP of record (who was the one who spotted her enlarged thyroid during an unrelated appointment some years ago) and she said that, once face to face appointments are more available, sh'e goinf to see "her" GP for a chat.

Diet is largely vegetarian, with a small amount of meat (she's just never been a great meat eater). My (at 64) recent total cholesterol was considered "normal", so it's probably not dietary.  Whether there is any past record of cholesterol checks over the years to compare to I don't know, but I doubt it given the frequency of her blood tests and sudden reaction.  She always considers herself a "healthy" person (and about 15 years younger than she is!) so it took the wind out of her sails a bit.

My damn hand is withering.
It is the one injured back in 2016 and subsequently operated on.

Random nerve pain, quite weak at times.

Compared to my right hand, the left looks like it belongs to someone 10 years older. Back to constant physio exercises for me.

All the best with the exercises.

Physio exercises: dreadfully boring, but the boredom can be overcome by knowing the enormous value.

Thanks Physios - absolutely brilliant work.

Ho hum.

Symptoms still not improving (slighty worse, perhaps)
and still no test results from the thoracic spine MRI on the 26th of January, nor from the blood results on the 14th of December.

That's disgusting.  We get MRI & radiology shots explained and handed to us before we leave the lab.  Blood analyses we get by post within 48 hours.

Sympathies. And to Cycleman & Mr. C, it's a bloody time to be out of action with the new season starting.

Why have you waited so long for blood test results they should have been back ages ago unless it was an out of the ordinary test. Get on to your GP or check your notes online. If you are seeing a Consultant about your back make an appointment to see him. They can read the MRI results. When SWMBO went to she a Consultant and he asked for an MRI she booked another appointment to see him and the MRI at the same time. You have to be your own advocate with the NHS otherwise you can sit around for months and nothing happens. In the mean time people who went after you have rung them a few times and got their results.

Apparently the MRI scan is getting looked at by another top neuroradiologist consultant, which may explain the delay?

At least that's what my neurologists receptionist said when I phoned a couple of days ago.
