Along with everyone he wrote about . . . .  which is, of course, why he insisted his autobiography shouldn't be published for 100 years.

I've been listening to it being read on Radio 4. 

His response to the apalling Moro crater massacre, which I have to admit I didn't know about, is richly deserved industrial strength sarcasm at its best.
