Bad News About Tom Petty
« on: 02 October, 2017, 09:08:42 pm »
Since starting this thread, the news about Tom Petty has become somewhat confused. I have therefore decided to amend the thread title and opening post to reflect the current situation.

Quote
Conflicting reports have emerged over the death of Tom Petty who has experienced a heart attack at the age of 66.

The singer-songwriter was reportedly rushed to the UCLA Santa Monica hospital on Monday after being found unconscious in his Malibu home. According to an initial LAPD source via CBS News and Variety, he was taken off life support soon after yet later tweets claim that the department has “no information about the passing of singer Tom Petty” and any information has been “inadvertently provided”.

"A report that the LAPD confirmed the singer's death is inaccurate"

Hopefully he hangs in there  :'(

In light of the confused reports surrounding Tom Petty's well-being, I have amended the thread title and opening post.

Let this be a teachable moment.  :-[

NY Times just published the news of Tom Petty's death, along with a very good obituary. RIP Tom Petty, I'm going to miss him.

Sad indeed. TP and the band were a great live act and, although it's credited to Tom solo, Full Moon Fever is, to my mind, one of the enduring albums of the late 80s.

It was always a shame that the Wilbury's never performed live - now that would have been a gig and a half!

American Girl always makes me think of the abduction scene in The Silence of The Lambs.

Thank you for the music.  RIP Tom  :'(

Bye Tom, hearing Heartbreakers and Wilburys music on the late night show with Bob Harris helped get me through a lot of mind numbing night shifts.
