Bike build success, a thank you.
« on: 19 November, 2017, 06:41:11 pm »

Over the last few weeks I've posted lots of questions related to my bike build. It's the first time I've built a bike up from scratch, I've learned loads from it, and despite a crisis of confidence at the end when I had it checked over by the LBS to check I had built something safe to ride, I did it solo. Solo that is apart from all the helpful advice and answers from people on YACF.

So I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have helped me get this far.

Here she is after a 46km shake down ride (of which the first 20K was into a Dutch headwind):

I've done just over 60k so far, and aside from the wrist/hand discomfort mentioned in another thread, it's been amazing. So light, so smooth, so quiet. After a decade riding a Brompton, it's such a change.

Thank you everyone!

Ride safe.

Why a towel around the top tube?

The end of the handlebars hits the frame, so until I tape the handle bars (once I'm happy with the position of the shifters), and the plugs go on the end of the bars, I have a tshirt wrapped round it to stop the paint being chipped. I may replace it with an old length of inner tube.

You learn a lot by doing a build, don't you?  I did a couple in 2011/2012 - great fun.
I've dusted off all those old bottles and set them up straight

A scratch build is the most satisfying and teaches you loads of stuff - both about compatibility of components and yourself!

It looks purposeful and hangs together really well. I'd be proud to ride that. Give yourself a well deserved pat on the back.

VELOMANCER

Well that's the more blunt way of putting it but as usual he's dead right.

Nice job (except for the t-shirt. Dear me!).
