What's the plan this week? A central location, or a great divide?

The first venue I visited on a MEMWNS was in Hatfield Broad Oak. Just saying  :)

Assington was mentioned for this week but I seem to recall there was less desire for that at the pub on Wednesday.  Wherever the destination, Will you be arriving on little or big wheels?

I'm possibly cycling to work on Thursday so not keen on a massive distance on Wed night but HBO has some potential - if they have some beers worthy of a visit on.
Regards,

Joergen

Medium sized wheels this week!

Checking their (The Cock, HBO) Facebook page, ABK HELL Bavarian Beer seems to be the only decent option at the moment. Only 5% mind, so not too extreme.

I'm heading to Wales on Thursday evening for a Super Randonnee this weekend, so equally keen for a sensible evening on Wednesday.

Maybe a split then.  HBO is a once a year for me and not this week - it's about 135k round trip.

My take from doing a solo recce to Assington:
It's about the range limit for many on unfamiliar routes
Many of the roads I used were in particularly poor condition - narrow deep lanes with heavy deposits of large freshly cracked flints, mostly in the centre but spreading across whole road in many places.
Rather lumpy with some steep descents and climbs with the previously mentioned debris.
Roads used from Assington to Totham were much better than the ones used to get there.

Pub is nice with 4 ales from 2 breweries (Mauldons and Nethergate) at £4.10 per pint (2 sampled), food available with sensible menu and reasonable pricing, large covered patio plus beer garden with standard pub bench tables.

How about The Cross Keys HP, or are you really pressed for time this week?

I think cross Keys HP is on for next week - but I wouldn't mind that either...

Bavarian Hells is pretty much a larger which I've had a couple of times but I am not sure I can justify a 35k ride there for a larger...

A Faceache post of theirs from 17th May shows Eagle IPA, Adnams Southwold and Bombarder on the taps... ??

Ok, I hadn't realised we were at the Cross Keys next week. Alma is fine for this Wednesday 👍

Oh yes. I only went as far back as 27th May.

I'm happy with an alternative, but if HBO is not too far then I know there's plenty of outdoor seating, and they have a fine selection of beers  ;D

HBO is ok by me, but I was psyching myself up for a 100km evening ride to/from Assington, so it will be a very modest distance for me! Anyone recommend a pub in Sawbridgeworth as an alternative? I've been to The Bull a few years ago - McMullen's.

Sawbridgeworth is doable for me but it means a A road return.  (as does HBO)

I noticed the Black Lion in High Roding the other day which I haven't been to for a very very long time. but looks like it's GK IPA + a guest ale (though no idea if it will have one on!) so that would be equally a wildcard!  Why is there such a shortage of suitable pubs now - they all seem to be mostly eateries and larger...

I'm about the same distance to either HBO/Sawbridge or The Alma (with A12 return) and I am not sure I am taken for any of them at the moment... maybe I need a break! LOL

I’ve only been to The Gate in Sawbridgeworth, but not since the microbrewery closed and the new owners moved in. Can’t see from their FB page what they serve, which isn’t a good sign, me thinks.

What with travelling for work and a fortnights holiday I won't be out in June I'm afraid.  7th July is the next opportunity for me to be awheel on a Wednesday evening  :'(

Ok - I'll give them a ring later and book a table - outside?
