huggy - if you're interested, I'll be following approximately the same route we took to Pleshey, with a slightly different continuation from Little Waltham.  I'll probably limit myself to a single ascent of North Hill en-route.

Jack and Jenny at 19:15?

Sounds good to me, although I hope the current chilly wetness has passed by as forecast by then  :-\
If you're planning on just the one ascent of North Hill I guess you have the option of The Rodney or the George to pass the time while I make my own way up it  :P

See you at Jack and Jenny @ 19:15 then

I am available this week. I may put in an appearance. Too early in the week for beer, sadly.

I won't be there. I'm having sciatic trouble in my left leg at the moment which exacerbates my tourette's.

If anyone is still going - what time do you think you will be there?

I'm still a maybe, but I've been out twice today and got drenched both times. I'm not sure I fancy a third! Or maybe it will be third time lucky?!

The Witham duo are setting off about 7:15 aiming to arrive no later than 9pm via the gratuitous route.
I too was concerned about the possibility of getting wet but I'm confident that it'll remain dry and mild for the rest of the evening  :-X
However, wets are in the panniers

A very pleasant evening ride out to the Three Elms was enjoyed by Tomsk, Chief, Oaky & Huggy - dry overhead (if not under wheel) and very mild.
After a brief refreshment stop at the Walnut Tree the delights of good beer and home prepared bar snacks at the Three Elms firmly places it on the list of local hostelries to visit.
Homemade pork scratchings and scotch eggs received very good reviews and further quality control visits are no doubt to be scheduled in the near future!

huggy's pretty much said it all already, so I'll just add a "+1" and the obligatory beer list:  They were stocking two Nethergate brews, (3.9, a very tasty, slightly hoppy session-type beer and Suffolk County, a darker, maltier, chewier brew) which were both very tasty - we all, I think, had a preference for the 3.9, but I certainly enjoyed both.  The pub is very nice inside with a wood stove/fire, beams etc.

Oh and the home-made scratchings and Scotch eggs were great.

I didn't get a picture of the scratchings, but the eggs, once cut up, looked like so:-

The landlord, Pete, was a very friendly chap, who with his wife Gill had taken over the pub in December last year.

35 miles in huggy's company (and chief's for about 5 miles).  One more gratuitous ascent of North Hill chalked up (now on 9/52).

Oh and the home-made scratchings and Scotch eggs were great.

Not sure if it could have been the extra load of carrying the excellent bar snacks but I went out to the bike shed Thursday afternoon for a leisurely shopping trip in to town to find my front tyre somewhat lacking in air, the bonus is that it's only flat at the bottom I guess!
Can't say I noticed any degredation in rotation performance on the return home in the early hours of Thursday morning but that could have been due to the quality of beer.
Therefore the shopping trip also included a visit to the LBS for a puncture repair kit......

The 3 Elms gets the  from me too!

Re: this week: I forgot about book club, so David and I will be riding on Tues or Thursday instead. We may even go to The Three Elms again: the circuit we did out thru' the Rodings, then across to Roxwell was flattish and fast, with just a few twisty-turny bits around Willingale. 32 miles in total.

Not sure --- we're off to Woking for a birthday party on Sunday lunchtime - not sure what our ETA home is.

Ah yes, I recall being told about this. I am planning a detox ride  at about lunchtime. The Current Mrs R has booked us in for a sleepover on Saturday night and I anticipate it might be a boozy night.

Afternoon won't be possible but an evening spin may be doable, although probably too late to be called a detox ride!

My plan for Sunday is to arrive at the Three Elms, Chignal St James at about noon, down a couple of pints, one of their homemade scotch eggs and head off again.

If this plan works for anyone please let me know.

Sounds like a great plan but unfortunately we have guests and the little man here so I won't be able to join you  :(
Didn't think you'd be able to resist the calling of the homemade scotch eggs for long, you should also check out the homemade pork scratchings too

Revisit the 'Three Elms'? Or somewhere else - we haven't been to the 'Square & Compasses' recently.

I'm easy!  Either way, I'll be convoluting via North Hill.
