Author Topic: THE Kidderminster Killer & From Clee to Heaven Audaxes. 16 Aug 14  (Read 1964 times)

FROM CLEE TO HEAVEN audax is a 123km figure of 8 jaunt from North Worcestershire to the Blue Hills of Shropshire and back. A lovely rural route with a hill or two or three or....... Lovely on a summer's day.

THE KIDDERMINSTER KILLER is a 215km audax with a long pedigree, a hilly but spectacular route to Montgomeryshire and back. This event is a bit of legend in audax circles and has attracted a great number of riders, both internationally and locally, over 25 years. 3,750m of ascent provides a challenging day.   Many YACF members will be familiar with the event in days gone by, when organised by the legendary Dave Pountney of Kidderminster CTC.

Just entered From Clee to Heaven which will be my first ever audax!

I'm looking forward to it, it was a no brainer really seeing as how the route passes both my place of work and (practically) my house.

Just got to try and get some miles in before hand now, managed 67km on Saturday but I was very sore towards the end (that'll teach me to have five weeks off the bike, get married and spend two weeks eating and drinking what I want during the honeymoon!).

You will be more than welcome, TQ.

As further news; I have received a splurge of riders seeking to ride The Kidderminster Killer on an ECE basis.  I best get some rocket fuel ready.

Some issues to note for this weekend's event:

WEATHER - fine with an afternoon breeze to blow you home.  With hardly any declared DNSs and fair weather, it is set to be our largest turnout to date.

KK

MONTGOMERY CARNIVAL - may cause some disruption around midday but is easily avoidable.

MONTGOMERY CAFES - Montgomery is a free control but both cafes have labels and will be expecting riders.  Both have excellent menus and Ivy House will be opening their upstairs room for everyone.

ACTON SCOTT - will be laying on extra flap jacks :) .

MONTGOMERY TO HOPTON CASTLE - as ever, this technical section has some nasties along route.  Take care of gravel on the blind descents.

CLEE

BROWN CLEE - the traversing lanes are potholed in places.

STAGE 3 - New England Ford by-pass path may be muddy. Don't try to ride the ford unless you appreciate Kidderminster Minor Injuries Unit.

C’mon Phil.
Tell us the story of the ‘April fools’ German aircrew.

I had a lovely day out on the KK.  The icing on the cake was the bacon sandwich back at Belbroughton (and the cake itself obviously).

Thanks very much to Phil and all his helpers - hope to see you next year.

I was so looking forward to the bacon sandwich at the finish, I could smell the bacon from
30k out. On arrivee to the finish I found out all the bacon had been polished off by quicker
riders. :'(   But Phil made me a couple of superb ham sandwiches
Must remember to be stronger for next year lol.
It twas a great day out, even though it became a bit of a suffer fest due to my lack of power
this year.
A big thank you to Phil & all of his crew for running this event. It's always on my calendar to
do each year.
