What's good on streaming services...
« on: 17 February, 2019, 12:57:51 pm »
Couldn't see a suitable thread...

The Expanse on amazon prime.  Anyone watching?  I'm on season 3, atm, and really enjoying it - in fact I'm struggling to think of a better Sci fi series, I've seen.  Gripping, well produced, and storyline is
engaging.

Really enjoyed the first 2 seasons but didn’t realise the third had been released. Thanks for the heads up.

The Expanse is a sore point with Netflix subscribers. They ran the first two seasons then abandoned it.

Ah yes, I'd forgotten it had been on Netflix.  edit. We tend to be on prime sporadically, paying the monthly fee, for a few months at a time.

That was where I saw it and obviously when they dropped it I didn’t get a reminder about the new season.

Ah, we stumbled across season 3 last night after renting a movie (which is mostly what we use Amazon for), and I was saying to my wife, wasn't this on Netflix? I put it down to confusion. So it was on Netflix. I feel vindicated.

I have enjoyed Professor T ,13 Commandments, Rough Justice (all Belgian crime, though Prof T is 'odd') on Walter Presents (All 4).
Also watching The River (Norway), which is nonsense. I reckon the hidden story is about special sausages....

We've enjoyed Brokenwood on "Drama" tv. I guess the nearest equivalent would be a Kiwi version of Midsomer Murders (not that I've ever seen Midsomer Murders...)

I quite enjoyed Travelers recently on Netflix, if you like time travel shenanigans. Amazon Prime (or it might be Netflix) has Agents of SHIELD, which has been consistently good. Netflix has a slew of Marvel superheroes, which while aren't bad, always seem a bit laboured and the humour in the movies is often missing (I've never understood Iron Fist, he's a martial arts superhero who is, quite frankly, awful at fighting, he's always getting his ass handed to him). I think everyone has seen Stranger Things, which is part mystery, part nostalgia trip. I think Grimm is on one of them, that's good too if you like supernatural stuff with a ludicrous premise but done very well.

The good thing is that you treat everything like a pilot, and bail after one or two episodes if it's not your thing.

A bit League of Gentlemen then?
It is simpler than it looks.

I notice Homeland season 7 has appeared on Netflix.  For some reason, I ignored Homeland for several years before starting - season 6 was good.
