RIP 605

My Edge 605, which has given a brilliant service for six and one half years, has today died!
I took it on a shopping trip and it was fine, it recorded the outward journey, but wouldn't start when I returned to the bike.
I can still read the internal and card memory.
When it's plugged into the charger it doesn't display a battery and is trying to acquire satellites.
I think the battery has gone rather than a total failure.

Touring plus time, it's cheap and I can use my Navigator maps with it.

Here it is connected to a remote charging device. Notice the empty battery icon.

Now connected to mains, official Garmin, charger. Note the lack of a battery display.

Ordered a Touring plus and heart rate monitor. I think I'll also get a battery for the 605 and have a play with it.

Have you tried a full reset?

If it is anything like the 705, then replacement batteries are easy to source and install.

If you haven't replaced the battery in 6.5 years then that is good going.  My 705 did about 3.5, I think.

Exact same battery. They're about a tenner.

Power button does nothing, even when connected to a remote charging device.

You need to hold the MODE button at the same time as Power for a full reset.  Try it for many seconds, while it's on external power as well as not.

Nothing doing!
I'll have a new battery for it in a couple of days so I shall have a poke about.

Daft question, but what do you perceive as the benefit of having the HR function?  I cannot work out when it would be useful to me or for what, as I am pretty sure I know when I am dying

My curiosity will be satisfied.  ;)
It'll have to wait though as I clicked the wrong item and just got the standard Edge Touring.

That raises an interesting question.

“What was it like the last time you died?”
