2009 Goals
« on: 07 January, 2009, 05:35:24 pm »
I may look back and laugh at the end of the year but I hope this acts as some motivation.

2009 goals are:-

Weight down to under 12st (76.2kg) and keep it there. Started this year at 82.2kg. (Oct 2006 I once saw 94kg on the scales.)
Cycling 10000km. 5000km+ to come from Audaxing (if I hit my planned 50 point target). The rest should come from commuting (5198km if I cycled all 226 work days but no chance of that) plus "training" rides in Richmond Park and Surrey Hills plus general pootling. 100 laps of Richmond Park.
Running Build up to 3 x 1 hour runs a week so I can run into work and back (not on the same day though). The third can be a lap of Richmond Park at the weekend. Currently coughing my way through 2x20min runs a week.
Swimming Build up to 3 x 1km swims a week. Local council leisure centre has gym and decent pool open from 6am and I'm already a member so I have no excuse.
Core Strength Starting off with the 100 press up challenge. Once this is complete I'll look for a more thorough/comprehensive plan and get a gym ball (Mrs G needs one too).

My motivational present to myself will be a Garmin Forerunner 405 which I can use to pace myself when I get to running on the open road (I'm rubbish at pacing myself when I don't have a treadmill doing it for me). It'll also be useful for analysis of frequent training rides (Richmond Park and Surrey Hills) so I can have position/speed/etc and HR data.

[EDIT] All of this whilst holding down a full time job and doing the 3rd year of my Maths degree part-time. Hmm.

1) To weigh 12st something.
(12st 13pounds and 15oz will be fine)

2) Cycle a bit.

The pressure is off a bit this year, I got my SR last year and will be joining Urban-Biker, Chillmoister and Keeks on their quest for their SRs, but I don't feel any pressure to do it which is very nice.

That's it.

Ah yes, that was one of mine from last year that fell by the wayside. 69:08 was my fastest. Anti-clockwise on 67" fixed.

I'm no time-triallist but wouldn't it be better to go for consistent times every lap?

I mean 21mins + 21mins may leave you with more gas in the tank for the 3rd lap than 20mins + 22mins (it seems to me like you went out too hard).

I know you eventually need 60mins total but I think the key is to improve on your overall consistency rather than banging out a blistering 1st lap and then dying over next 40 mins

An addition to my goals for 2009:

100 laps of Richmond Park (a nice way to put in 1070km). 2 a week sounds easy, especially when I'd like to be doing 3 laps twice a week, but we'll start with that as a goal.

A massive total of 2 laps so far on 21-JAN.

Also, a secondary goal (as Audaxing is my main aim): a sub 27 minute 10.
