Came across this riddle in a novel which I am sure has been around for ever but I think it's worth posting it here.
Three men walk into a hotel and ask for a room to share. It costs £30 so they pay £10 each. Later on the receptionist realises that it should have been only £25 so sends the bellhop up to their room with £5. He realises that it will not be easy to split £5 between the three of them so keeps £2 for himself and gives the three men a pound back each. So they end up paying £9 each, £9 x 3 is £27 plus the £2 the bellhop keeps for himself is £29. So where has the missing pound gone?

They paid £9 each, so £27 in total. Of that, the bellhop got £2 and the hotel £25.
The £2 should have been taken away from what they paid, not added.
