A patch of wild bluebells flowering on the roadside.
Seems early.  They're usually a May thing around  here.
Admission.  I'm actually not that fussed about cake.

Last weekend, I was walking through this wood near my brother's house, in his company. There were lots of bluebell plants all around us and he stopped and pointed out one that was in bud. "They are late this year. Last year there were bluebells here in flower in February."

It's what non-cyclists have instead of undergrowth.

The magnolias are blooming. How ironic that such a bizarre looking tree (I think) and pretty, should have given its name to a paint that's another name for beige.

I cycled through my first faint cloud of wild garlic aroma on my way home this afternoon.

It was so cold and foggy this morning that I couldn't see far enough to see signs of anything never mind spring.
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

Jenny Wren popping  in and out of the bird box with nesting stuff in its beak.  Exciting stuff for us as the box has been unoccupied for the two years we've been here.
Admission.  I'm actually not that fussed about cake.

Primroses and bluebells are out.

The bluebells in my back yard have finally put their flower spikes above the leaves, but they haven't opened yet. The cold snap last month has delayed a lot of plant action by a couple of weeks or so.

To qualify my earlier comment, I took the dog for a walk in the woods this afternoon and saw a few scattered bluebells, but also lots of patches of dense green foliage that within a week or two will be a carpet of blue.

It’s the Oasts & Coasts 300 next weekend. They’re usually out in force in the Ashdown Forest for that ride.

A huge fat bumble bee flew in through the kitchen window. Species unknown but not one of the usual white-tailed ones; it had a black, conical tail. So large I could still hear it buzzing quite clearly once I'd got it outside and shut the (double-glazed) window. It must have been attracted by the daffodils on the window sill, right? No, it was buzzing around and clinging to my trouser leg. And once I'd got it outside it spent some time investigating my bike, specifically the rear rack, which was standing by the door.

That's the best way for a bike:bumble bee encounter to go.  Certainly an improvement over my usual target-fixation face-on collision with them at speeds in excess of 20mph.

Question is, what's on my trouser leg? Hmm, I did have marmalade for breakfast.  :D (Home made – by a friend – and utterly delicious.)

The noisy cock over the road had a weekend garden power tool fest.

I think he must have all variants of antisocial gardening appliances.

Riding through a stretch of forest yesterday, I noticed that El Prez seemed to have mounted tyres with a yellow-green rolling-strip. Then I looked at my own front tyre and saw that it matched his.

Pollen.
I've dusted off all those old bottles and set them up straight
