Yep. Sad day. Had to happen sometime, and I wish I'd seen him live. Barry Cryer was on R4 this morning being interviewed about Ken, and there's another 'great' who's time with us can't be too long perhaps.
A couple of years ago one of the TV channels produced a "100 greatest stand up comics" programme, informed (it claimed) by a public vote. I remember watching it wondering when it was going to get to Ken Dodd but he didn't even get a mention while numerous non-entities who pad out cable channel quiz shows were featured.
As T42 says, old fashioned, but generally fun.
As for Barry Cryer, I had the great pleasure of sharing a few glasses of wine with him in a hotel bar in Brighton several years ago. Thoroughly unassuming and genuinely nice bloke. I hope he runs and runs.
