The jam butty mines have closed for a weeks mourning.
I was riding past the turn off for Knotty Ash only last night.

Thoroughly nice bloke. Music-hall humour as the article said, but warm-hearted. I'm glad he lived so long.

Yep. Sad day. Had to happen sometime, and I wish I'd seen him live. Barry Cryer was on R4 this morning being interviewed about Ken, and there's another 'great' who's time with us can't be too long perhaps.  :-\
Certainly never seen cycling south of Sussex

A couple of years ago one of the TV channels produced a "100 greatest stand up comics" programme, informed (it claimed) by a public vote.  I remember watching it wondering when it was going to get to Ken Dodd  but he didn't even get a mention while numerous non-entities who pad out cable channel quiz shows were featured.  ::-)   As T42 says, old fashioned, but generally fun.

As for Barry Cryer, I had the great pleasure of sharing a few glasses of wine with him in a hotel bar in Brighton several years ago. Thoroughly unassuming and genuinely nice bloke. I hope he runs and runs.
Why should anybody steal a watch when they can steal a bicycle?

We got to see him live at Newcastle and it was great. He warned the audience that it would run overtime and it was nearly midnight when we left the theatre. Part of our motivation for going was simply the desire to see him before this day came.
Ken was a Sunday afternoon favourite along with Al Read and Jimmy Clitheroe.

God yes, Jimmy Clitheroe.  I was thinking about him and his mobile gumboil when I had one of the immobile variety last week.

"Did any of us in our wildest dreams ever think we'd live long enough to see the end of the DFS sale?" - Ken Dodd

A good epitaph.
Some people say I'm self-obsessed but that's enough about them.
