ID my animal dropping
« on: 16 October, 2017, 09:26:14 pm »
Up in the loft this evening I spied these:

Are they rat turds?   I heard animal scrabbling for a few days a couple of months back, but it's quiet now.

(Phew, moving out in 3 weeks)

I'd agree rats are likely  :(

Hard to tell the scale since you've not put a ruler or anything obvious in the pic with the turds  ;D

Rat poo is surprisingly large though- I would guess mice from first looking.

My rats are doing giant poo today because they had left over takeaway naan bread (peshwari) for their supper last night (pets)  ;)

I'm guessing that since it's in a loft *above* the insulation, the generic_poo_colour cable on the right is probably RG6 coaxial, nominally just under 7mm in diameter.  That makes the poo a lot bigger than I've encountered from meeces.

Kim has the coax correct. The turds are about half to three quarters of an inch (12mm to 20mm) long.

I can't even see a minus sign or a link in the OP. But if it's rats, suggest introducing a barn owl.  :D

With the possibility of 5 litters of 14 babies per year from a single female, you might want to think about setting a few good traps and check them daily.

My 5 year old daughter and I caught 10 in a day in a single trap baited with grapes, when we were living in Somerset and she used to love watching them jump when the trap caught them.

We had a resident rat when we moved in here.  Called in the council rat man which cost £50.  He laid poison in all the places that were dog proof.  He warned us that usually they leave the house in a desperate to find water and die off premises.  If we were unlucky,  the rat would crawl into a cavity and die there, in which case, success would be announced by a smell we'd have to put up with for a week.
We were lucky.

She'd be busy here, as rats are a proper problem in town at the moment.
