Abbeys and Roads - 9th Dec

I'm rather looking forward to this one. Goes right by my front door in Lacock which will prove to be a test of willpower if the weather's crap!

My first audax this year (for three years I think), entered two others organised by ACB but DNS those, third time lucky! As long as it's not icy then I'm happy

That's nothing.

This weekend's Tewkesbury ride goes through Willey, Rodd and Titley

Weather looking a bit dicey temperature wise, I've amended the route slightly to keep to A and B roads in the first few hours but have the wife on hold for a rescue if needs be.

Gave this a miss today due to ice-risk. Still very cold in deepest Worcestershire, but at least I've got the Christmas cards written.

It was OK after the first couple of hours - a bit of frost but only one serious bit of ice which I suspect most people walked past (north facing hill). That was seriously hard though, my first audax ride finished in nearly four years but f*& me that was hard. Dead chuffed that I didn't pack and get a train from Gloucester, I'd even packed sandwhiches and a cosy jacket in anticipation of being sat on the train a while.

DNF for me, due to silliness!
Rode the 25 miles to the start but had a visit from the p*ncture elves en route, causing me to start 50 minutes late with frostnipped fingers. Was feeling pretty good at Lacock and thought I’d done the toughest bit by actually leaving my warm house for the 2nd time!
Heavy legs kicked in with a vengeance (definitely shouldn’t have played squash on Friday!) shortly after Malmesbury, so I opted to turn for home.
