Nah, that's too hopeless, we need to make him live in a bedsit on universal income, but make sure the bedsit isn't on a bus route and at least 5 miles away from the office he has to sign in at. Make sure he is offered jobs, but just at the edge of his skill set (though I don't think there are any jobs other than politician that require you to be a callous bastard) so that he has hope of getting out of his situation. there is nothing as soul destroying as unrequited hope.
