Friday Night Ride to the Start
« on: 12 May, 2018, 12:03:54 pm »

Having chickened out of actually applying to ride the TCR this year, I thought I'd head down to Geraadsbergen for the weekend to see the riders off. Given I'm likely not the only one with this sort of inclination, I thought I'd see if anyone else was crazy enough to want to join me on the ride.

Plan would be to leave Amsterdam on the Friday evening and cycle south along the Amstel, then across to Kinderdijk, and then finish within 17 hours at the top of the Muur, just in time for lunch...

Provision route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/27484310

Anyone else interested?

Doesn't it start on a Sunday?

" #TCRNo6 starts 29th July 2018. "

It does. Hence giving a whole weekend to get there. Or in this case, an evening for a crazy through the night ride, followed by a day to recover, then the start...

What makes you think your idea is crazy? Looks perfectly reasonable for the distance you intend to ride.

Oh I guess I'm just so used to people telling me everything I do on a bike is crazy I'm starting to believe them...

Refining the route plan for this ride, I thought it a good idea to check what the Moon was going to be doing this night. Answer: Eclipsing!

The moon will rise in totality about an hour or so into the ride, with another hour or so of totality before it starts to reappear. Giving the opportunity to ride through a lunar eclipse followed by a fullmoon ride south.

Any takers?
