The later Kinetics use a rechargeable battery instead, a special lithium-tantalum-unobtainium one.  My 2000 Lorus Kinetic uses a capacitor, however, and is still going strong.  Seiko stopped making Lorus Kinetics, probably because the wrong sort of people could afford them.

Stage 1 of the Anglepoise refurbishment. Brightened up the paintwork a tad with tactical Duraglit. Deployed my trusty multimeter to see if anything was shorted to anything else. Swapped the CFL lamp for an LED one, so it boings properly on the springs. Persuaded the grommets back into their holes.

Ever since I changed my position to a more rearward saddle, my Ortlieb saddlebag has rubbed my shorts.  I've just fitted new tribar extensions to my touring bike so I used an inch of one of the offcuts to space out the seatpost attachment.
Result: no more chafed shorts :)

Werkzeugwiedersehensfreude?

No idea if it's grammatically correct but it looks suitably grand and complex . . .

What I felt after searching for half an hour last night for the little engineer's scriber I had mislaid while wrestling with my bandsaw, and finally finding it this morning, lurking under a miniature grip wrench  - made, funnily enough, by the same company, General Tool, NY.  I bought both of them at the same time, over 30 years ago in Sunnyvale.

Tempted to add "but that was in another country, and besides, the wrench is dead" only it's still going strong.
I've dusted off all those old bottles and set them up straight

Butchered a LH Shimano brake lever to leave just the body and hood, for fixie use.  Sometimes you don't want bullhorns.

And just fitted a Schwalbe Durano Plus Etape 700 x 23 to a Rigida Nova rim.  That wasn't easy but I didn't have to resort to things like toestraps.

Put heatshrink around the unused rear light connections of a B&M IQ-X (now only just over £60 from Rose), fitted a Shinano plug and temporarily put it on the LHT to try it.  Ir's intended for the commuter eventually.

Replaced the crappy plastic chainguards on our Bromptons with colour-matched aluminium ones. Tensioned the chain on my fixed.

Changed the chain on HK's Roberts but had brain fade and cut the chain an inch too short, so two quick links needed in one chain.

Rebuilt a Colnago C50 from scratch after we got the frame back from the carbon repair shop. Included new Colnago Record EPS shifters and bar tape.

Owner needed to get it fixed after he fell 200 feet of a mountain whilst riding it.

Looks proper lush.

Fettled the vintage CTC patch and other assorted cloth badges onto the Camper Longflap. Only broke one needle trying to get through the cotton duck...

Giving the big Thorn Nomad a bit of TLC before my next tour.  He had a good cleaning the other day, now chainset, pedals, bottom bracket & EBB shell removed, cleaned lubed & refitted.  S&S couplings cleaned & lubed. Brackets fitted for a new pump.  Still to do, change the oil in the Rohloff, lube the headset, replace all gear & brake cables.   Then I need to get my thimble out & do some Carradice maintenance.

The bill for the frame repair was a tad north of £500.

The bill from us, parts and labour was a fraction south of £700.

The Colnago was worth it. I can't get any pictures but the frame looks new. It is the finish with visible carbon weave and the site of the major damage is barely noticeable.

If anyone needs a carbon frame repair, let me know and I'll send their details.

Purely anecdotal, a friend (who is also a framebuilder & shop owner) told me of sending a R!**7é carbon frame for repair and being asked if the customer wanted the manufacturing defects sorting out whilst they repaired the crack...

Cleaned the crank ready to go back on to the dawes.  Need to clean and regrease the hubs. Then reinstall the bars and new bar tape then ready to go.....ish.

Replaced the brake levers on the brompton to the modern ones, used the old brake cables that have the nipple not the barrel end.  Still haven't replaced the brakes calipers from the single side.  Will install the new chain tomorrow, ready to take to the DD on saturday.

Forgot that I have a chain sitting in white spirit.  The chain was really really dirty, and full of lots of old chain lube on one side.  So decided to soak the chain in white spirit and then maybe use candle wax as lube as I was given a slow cooker so decided to try it out.  Finally do something with the hundreds of tealights that are kicking around.
