AC adaptor for a compaq`
« on: 15 July, 2015, 06:44:58 pm »
My mother's laptop AC charger is buggered. I know this because the cable is frayed so I need to get her a new one.

Does it matter whether I get a OEM part or can I buy a generic one?

thanks

PS

Its a HP Compaq Presario V6254ea AC Adapter

Generic from a reputable source will be fine.  Just check it's got the right connector, same volts, and same or higher amps/watts rating.

Or you or I could repair the cable.

EDIT: A safe repair could be tricky if the mains cable is damaged right where it enters the pack.  They tend to be sealed units.  The cable failures I've had have been on the low voltage side, so that's what I was assuming.
