Rather than roast it in the oven, I barbecued tonight's pork joint - butterflied and marinated in harissa paste, fennel and coriander seeds and lemon juice - and it worked out rather well.  :smug:

It's taken an effort of will to leave some for tomorrow... ;D

Last night, rather: tagliatelle with tomato purée, bacon and exactly the right amount of garlic & basil, i.e. enough to stop a train.  It was so good that we had more of it for lunch. We're now out of garlic, basil & tomato purée.
I've dusted off all those old bottles and set them up straight

Autumn approaches. Pork chops with apple sauce, and the last of our Charlotte potatoes. I suspect tomato soup in th3 offing to, given our current glut.

Allotments open day and tenants' party today, so a surfeit of home-cooked pot-luck food: some excellent curry and outstanding samosas, and courgette and carrot cakes to follow. Feeling pleasantly replete now, though I really just wants nap rather than having to do the Sunday night school prep/bath/bed routine...

a nice stew of chicken thighs, chorizo, kidney beans, tomatoes and shallots, with plenty of additional paprika and herbs.  A salad of tomatos, olives and home grown cucumbers.  Cucumbers are the monster crop this year, I've just found one hiding in the greenhouse, weighing in at 760g

Not much.  I'll probably gnaw on some leftovers pork belly from lunch time.  But no more ratatouille.  I'm sick to death of ratatouille.
Admission.  I'm actually not that fussed about cake.

I'll swap your curgettes for some cucumbers.  I may run out of jars for pickling.

Wonders... can I make cucumber gin?

Cucumbers are even worse.
I might try making courgette crisps.

Baked beans on toast. With sausages*. It's not a case of not learning (though that is so often the case), haricot beans don't make me toot like a brass band on amphetamines. There's a distinct division of the beans. Kidney beans? Break out the devil's trombone. Lentils, the entire bloody symphonic overture. There's something deeply wrong in the orchestra pit, dear. Run, run, darling, the orchestra are revolting. Haricot? nothing to trouble Mr Beaufort. Wouldn't even ruffle his hair.

I don't get to eat baked beans normally unless I go to a proper greasy cafe as my wife doesn't like them (she doesn't eat the colour red). I don't know how one woman can be so wrong about everything and yet still marry me.

*unreal sausages made out of vegetables, pigs are too cute to eat, unless they're baconized and I still have a quandary. Every time I try to bite into a bacon butty I just picture a pig raising its eyebrows and saying really, I mean REALLY? I just hate being guilt-tripped by imaginary talking animals.

A very rare ribeye steak with grilled peppers, shallots & tomatoes.  Washed down by a pretty decent Portuguese red.

That'll be as rare as the steak, then  :demon:

Spaghetti bolognese. Unfortunately, when it came to put it in the slow cooker I noticed the omission of smoked pancetta from my fridge. O woes. Didn't have time to go the shop.

On the grounds it needs something smoky, I tipped in half a tub of smoked mild paprika and a small sprinkle of chipotle. Living on the culinary knife edge, I am.

We had Heston's black pudding crusted spiced rack of pork with calvados sauce and a crackling crumb. While I don't normally do stuff like this, it had been reduced to £6 (full price, £18!!1!, current "reduced" price £13). All I can say is that it was truly Heston bloomin'awful, wouldn't have it again at any price.

Meal on wheels Chinese from Lin-Chi choosing exactly same menu items as on 5 May 2018 as I'd received somewhat desperate iMessage from cold and hungry partner.
Excellent, as always.

Still vaguely low carb. If I squint.

I thought the glycaemic index of rice noodles approximated to that of the icing on the cake...

A tin of cassoulet to which I will add a couple of Toulouse sausages.
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

Beef carbonnade, though I'll probably eschew a garlic bread crouton topping and make some mustard'n'garlic mash to go with it instead.
