-8.5 here and it dipped to -9.4 at 08:00, according to our local weather-nerd. Mostly a clear night so no new snow. Luckily there was a small gap in the curtains so I didn't have to get up to see it was clear, a shaft of moonlight crept its way round the room.
It is simpler than it looks.

The Reading University weather station says -8.3. My garden thermometer says -4. Benson (S. Oxfordshire) weather station says -17.

Our garden thermometer is snowed over  ::-)
But after a nice clear night the doors were hard to open this morning.

The London airports are reporting around -6°C, which is a bit brisk, but since I won't be cycling to work, I doubt I'll need to wear all that much.  It's nice to see clear skies though.

There's no more snow forecast for a few days, but the temperatures aren't forecast to get above zero, so I suspect what we've got on the ground will hang around for a while, and get crunchier, and possibly slippery.
Actually, it is rocket science.

I think the weathermen have changed their minds Tim. Expect snow soon!

Clear blue skies in Penarth.

The council workman who diligently cleared the snow off the pavement on one side of the main street yesterday ( ) has just started the futile task of hacking at the snow/ice on the pavement on the other side.

....and he has given up!
Faith, hope and gluttony.........

-5 now and -5.7 low according to the weather nerd round here who is located within 10m of the sea.

I looked at our road and decided that I'd not try driving to work today. The picture below is what it was like yesterday evening. Imagine the road surface with 12 hours of -5 degrees. It's an ice rink.

The roads to our village have been like that or worse since before Christmas bar new years eve when it thawed. By new years day it was back to snowed over.
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

It feels a bit surreal reading all of this. My commute this morning was a bit cold, and I had to avoid one or two slight patches of mucky slush, less than 1cm in depth.

Where is OUR snow??  >:( >:(

My commute (at 08:00) was pretty treacherous. Peterborough Road was thick ice, about 2-3 cm thick, I walked most of it, and there was a thin layer of ice all along the Embankment. The Long Haul Trucker was nice and stable, however.

-6.5 C in my garden this morning as I scooped the 'waste' from cat litter box. Too cold for me to ride to work still, not worth the risk. No more snow though.

No thermometers here, but I couldn't clean the condensation off our bedroom windows this morning---instead, there was a coat of ice. On the inside.

Curse the landlord, the freeholder, the freeholder's heating engineers, the residents' association who've been holding up the major works, the landlord's builder, the landlord's builder's subcontractors, and the letting agent. Curse the lot of them.

ALSO, there's all this snow and it's got no architectural quality at all. A whole heath of snow and I can't make a decent snowball, let alone an igloo. Wah.
Not especially helpful or mature

Crikey, whereabouts? It was clear when I was on it this morning, from Albert Bridge all the way to Embankment tube at about 8.30. Either that or I was blissfully unaware  :-\

Ten minutes ago I was telling a cow-orker that the promised extra SNO here in Harlot was unlikely given the clear blue skies and bright sunshine.

It has now started to SNO again.  Make yer sodding mind up, willya?

The Journal Of Captain M. Zoidburg. Bsc. Ssc.

7th of January, day 18.

Today Oates made the ultimate sacrifice.

His last words before he left the tent were "I am just popping to the off licence, I may be some time". I fear that his new trainers will be ruined which would be a right shame as his Reebok Classics are well nice.

-15 here last night.  Not only ice on the inside of the bedroom windows, but also the lounge

We have central heating, and were burning a very vigorous fire last night. Plus we have an Aga pumping out warm 24/7.

It was cold. So cold that the snow felt like dry powder and didn't make me wet when I ran through it.

Just a general expression of mild or sublimated alarm, once popular among roadies, possibly derived from a cult programme like H2G2 or Red Dwarf or summat.
