Shooting into the light yesterday - the light specs are midges. I didn't realise there were so many, even on midge scale 1

When photographing melanic harlequin ladybirds, care must be taken to avoid one's reflection:

(I've had a careful check that I'm not indecent in that one).

So instead, here's a proper native seven-spot, nomming away on aphids:

And a flutterby

Have you seen my blog? It has words. And pictures! http://ablogofallthingskathy.blogspot.com/

David, I think it's a marbled white butterfly.  Whatever, it's a good shot!

You are probably right.  I am not a lepidoptrist.

Lots of insect "activity" (hem hem) today:

Longhorn beetles:

Soldier beetles (a second male kept trying to get in on the action):

Flies - not sure which type:

Anyone know what this is? I'm guessing gall wasp larvae:

My camera's not really well suited for this sort of thing.  Nor have I any experience.  Nor yet do I have both arms working.  So it's fuzzy :-[ , but I'm just chuffed I got a shot before it flew away (actually, I got three).

I think if you click the picture you can see it full size. You can see its beady little eyes, lots of them! Oh, and that's a pint glass.

Yes, it's odd to think that it's "just" a house-spider.  As for the pint-glass, I'm not surprised - some of them can open their own bottles!

Met these chaps in France the other week:

It was pretty difficult deciding which bits to try to get in focus, particularly as they kept moving and I was using a rather cumbersome old manual lens.  There were many other shots that I discarded.  The fourth one was a beautiful blue of some variety but it never came to rest with its wings down.
