Look Mum, No Cafe anymore

Just seen that that Look Mum No Hands in Old Street London has shut up shop.  Boo.

We're so sad to tell you that Lmnh! closed its big black gates for the final time last Sunday. Like everyone in hospitality, the past three years have been very difficult for us and although we did our best to survive, we've come to the end of our time on Old Street.

<snip>
It's a tough time for everyone but everytime you can support a small business and shop local, they and their staff will appreciate you. Jeff Bezos doesn’t give a shit.

I was surprised to see that earlier.  It was a nice place.

Also, I thought they'd been going longer than 2010.

I'd read about this on LFGSS.
They were selling off their workshop hardware.
Oddly enough LBC have in recent weeks (including today) been running an advert for a webmaster type outfit, which features an ad they'd created which refers to LMNH, and is endorsed by Matt.

I remember it opening, it felt like the start of an era, the new cycle lanes were going in, people were getting on their bikes. I'd date the resurgence to1999, with the start of the bike to work scheme. Before that, bike shops were closing and closing everywhere. Here was a bike workshop and caff! Ok, just maybe it was a bit too hipster to call a caff, but still. I called in every now and then on my way home, but they would never have got rich from my custom. I'm sure I was there once when they were running a "cyclists speed dating" session? Maybe that was just a bad dream.

End of an era, now, then.

Ah such a shame, I have fond memories of the place, sitting outside with butterfly and Jane and jo back in 2012.

Young Andy, from Cyclechat, did some kind of fund raiser there a few years ago, before he cycled off to Romania to work in an orphanage. I went along to chuck a few quid in the pot. Leggy and Suzie were there too. I seem to recall you could pay to rip a wax strip off Andy's legs. Good times, trust me.

Been there a few times - including when our friend held her "Knitting SOS" sessions there!  A surprising crossover between knitting and cycling seems to exist.

I only went there once, ostensibly to hand over an Optima hinged-at-the-bottom tiller* to Charlotte, which turned into a massive YACF piss-up.  IIRC Woollypigs, Jacomus and I were the last to leave ;D

They've played the ad on LBC just now.

It looks like working from home is one of the reasons if not the main reason for their closing down.

First reaction was "there'll be a nice coffee machine going cheap there" but then I remembered that my old chum Marc had his machine on loan free of charge from the coffee company.
I've dusted off all those old bottles and set them up straight

Never actually been there, but at least that tiller still works.

A not-really-cyclist southern friend sent me a sad face and link to LMNH's Tweet about the closure. I took him and his husband there for lunch once, years ago, and I think they'd revisited a few times since. Shame, I had some nice lunches there.

I think I went there twice, once with Jane and once with Rebecca NOTP, whilst killing time prior to catching a sleeper somewhere.
