RIP Tony Doyle

He was a great guy. Remember him dropping back on a national squad weekend to pace me back to the group after a puncture.

One of my heroes as I grew up into cycle sport. I remember the comic's report on a supetfast  MG 25 time.

I remember when he seemed to feature in Cycling (Weekly) most weeks.  Sad news.

That is very sad. I saw him once, late in his career, at one of the Herne Hill Easter events. Also, 64 is way too young to be taken.

Attached is a picture of the Cliff Shrubb built World Championship winning bike of Tony Doyle R.I.P. It is to be put on display at Tony's funeral and at the wake afterwards.

Refurbished to perfection by his (and my) good friend Steve Wright

Nice, bigger bikes seem to have more pleasing proportions, but the seatpost and stem are different.

The Cinelli 1A stem fits with the bike, and could been used by Doyle, but the seatpost (Laprade?) looks out of place. More suitable would be the 2 bolt Campagnolo Record/Gran Sport, or the single bolt Super Record.

I just got my second copy of the Steve Snowling Bicycle Mechanics book in the post today, £2.60 for the paperback version. I believe the bikes in the book belonged to Tony Doyle, and they were built by Roberts?

To my knowledge Tony gave Steve the complete bike to renovate; as you'd imagine a rider will often swap the odd component from time to time so I am not surprised not every item matches between those two pictures.

Yes Roberts also made bikes for Tony
