1" disc fork?
« on: 09 April, 2012, 01:35:59 pm »
My Google-fu is pants today...

After my recent little incident, I am temporarily Between Bikes. I have a pub bike with a traditional 1" threaded fork which has done sterling service in the past. This may be my chance to try a disc front- v-brake rear combo, which I have been wanting to do for a while now.

For this I need to find a disc-compatible fork with a 1" steerer. Can be threadless since I would have to change much of the front end anyway and I am not wedded to the idea of a quill stem.

Any ideas?

This place has lots of 1" steerer carbon forks:
Carbon Cycles

But, along with wheel size, you need to know what axle-to-crown length and rake you require.

700c. 390mm a-to-c.

Dont think I can afford to be particular about rake as I would ideally want a steel fork.

But will look at the carbon site.

Any more ideas? Ideally a steel fork?

The carbon ones seem too long - 425mm a-c.

There is a 390mm a-c one on the carbon-cc website.  It says it's for 26" wheels, but with a disc brake it doesn't matter if you stick a 700c in there.  http://carboncycles.cc/?s=0&t=2&c=82&p=966&
Spendy, though.

Thanks bikenrrd. I have no experience of discs so didnt realise the 26"/700c issue doesn't apply.

Is pretty spendy.

Revrob's review very useful. That may be my best option. Thanks all!
