Electricity supply problem
« on: 29 June, 2009, 09:52:38 am »
Morning all.

The supply to three wall sockets has gone this am. The three sockets are all v close to each other. The microwave was plugged into one of them, and was working at the time that the supply stopped.

None of the switches in the 'fuse box' (are they still called that) has been tripped, and the supply elsewhere seems fine.

I've tried the microwave in another (working) socket, and it's okay too.

Any ideas?

TIA
Paul.

My guess is they're on a spur and there's a broken connection.  First port of call should be the socket nearest the fusebox, since everything downstream of that is out.

Turn the power off, open it up and check the connections.

If it's a ring main you have two problems ;)

Update:

Turns out we have 2 'fuseboxes'! The secret fusebox was hiding in the garage, and governs the circuits that had stopped working. It had been tripped.

Of course, I only discovered this after opening up 4 of the sockets on that circuit ::-)

It occurs to me that having 2 fuseboxes, but thinking you only have one, could result in a hard lesson.

Thanks for the help anyway, MV.
