SD card problems
« on: 27 October, 2018, 11:41:47 am »
I have a micro SD card in a GoPro that I think might be corrupted. I don't have an SD card reader. How can I check it? The GoPro doesn't appear as an external disk when I connect it to my Mac.

I thought Macs had an sd card slot? You will need an adapter tho.

Try another cable, to make sure it's not a faulty cable.

Of course, you're right - there is a slot. I've never used it so I'd forgotten about it.

However, I don't have an adapter, unfortunately.

Cable is irrelevant. My reason for suspecting the card is corrupted is because the GoPro often crashes during recording. This is why I want to check the card independently of the GoPro. The difficulty is that I don't have a means of reading the card...

(However, I can connect the GoPro to the Quik desktop app to download media from the device - as long as the recording was successful. I just can't view the contents of the card outside the app.)

Do you see anything in Disk Utility? Or any other disk reading app you might have?
It is simpler than it looks.

If you've got another device that takes SD cards and uses USB mass storage, you could try using that as a card reader.

Nope. This is a 'feature' of the GoPro - it just doesn't mount as an external disk (unlike eg my Garmin). Apparently older models did, but not more recent ones.

Alas, I don't have any other devices that use micro SD cards.

I guess the simplest solution will be to get myself down to PC World...

Very kind but I want to sort this today if possible, so Poundland/PC World it is...
