I can't stand beetroot.
The only thing I have to say about beetroot is usually done via my solicitor.

On the upside... Bigos or (Polak) Hunter's Stew.
Meat, cabbage and moar meat, cooked forever.
There isn't a heartier winter meal.
Daquise, next door to South Kensington tube station, serve up a very good example.

The beetroot is a Kiwi thing. Aussies will have nothing to do with it.

Not in my part of Oz. Beetroot was standard on burgers.

I suppose I might have had beetroot in a Kiwi burger, but every Australian fast food joint (and I've been to many of them) whether it be Hungry Jacks/Burger King, Maccas or any other smaller joint will do an "Aussie burger". Which will very much, without fail, contain beetroot. And people order them up big time....

The beetroot thing is a Kiwi incursion. They're planning the overthrow and return of Australia to the ranks of civilised nations. Frankly that's a big task.

Certainly 'putting fucking beetroot on our burgers' is a main source of contention between the factions from the two countries aboard our mothership (we recently acquired a NZ-based company, so beetroot levels have risen significantly).

I, for one, like pickled beetroot on my burgers.

Love Japanese cakes as they don't overdo the sugar as westerners do. Especially recommend traditional manju, pancakes with red bean paste filling.

There's a specialist supplier in London, Minamoto Kitchoan, conveniently opposite Fortnum and Mason on Piccadilly, or Japan Centre in Panton St off Haymarket.

Apple pie and custard.

I have heard Americans say that there is nothing more American that apple pie, overlooking the fact that the British introduced apple pie to the Americans, not forgetting that we didn't have apple pie until some explorer brought home apples from China.

I'll serve you pie or sponge with custard when you next visit.

There's something missing in your diet!

The Americans have an alarming tendency to eat it with cheese though. Which is just messed up and frankly it's no wonder they have Donald Trump if they're doing stuff like that.

Obviously eating apple pie with USAnian cheese-flavored food product is Just Wrong, but a nice piece of Wensleydale, on the other hand.

This is a nest of wrongness. I like American cheese food product. At least it's honest, which compared to most of their politicians, is something of a distinguishing feature.

Apple pie should be served with custard. But crumble is better.

Yebbut I am not sure I would term USAnian 'cheese' as 'food'.

A favourite saying of my dad's (trotted out every time mum made apple pie) was: apple pie without cheese is like a kiss without a squeeze!

Cassoulet au confit de canard.
Preferably with a glass or three of one those dark reds  from the south-west.  Madiran is my current favourite now so much Cahors is made to a lighter style.

Wah? An explorer bringing apples from China? I thought they originated in Central Asia and spread overland?
