Talking of Terrible Things, there is that referred to by the USAnians as "biscuits & gravy". Obviously the "biscuits" are not biscuits, because the uncouth Leftpondians call such things "cookies". No, they are more akin to fruit-free scones. The "gravy" is some sort of off-white sauce, having the consistency of wallpaper paste, with unidentifiable grey lumps suspended in it.

As for bacon turned into charcoal ...
When in the US I tend to avoid bacon at breakfast unless I know it won't be burnt to a crisp.
