Video Encoding machine upgrades.
« on: 21 November, 2015, 04:38:23 am »
So I was thinking of re-encoding all my media to x265 with Handbrake. It'd save me about 18TB in storage space so it's worth it I reckon. My current system Quad core2duo machine with 8GB ram says it'll take 8 hours.

So I've gone and got myself a new PC with a i7 4930k process and 32GB of ram. I haven't encoded anything yet but any ideas how I came upgrade it further for encoding? Will a silly graphics card help?

Looks like Handbrake can use hardware acceleration for decoding, not so much for re-encoding:

A quick search that some more research is really required to give you a good answer.
