I'll have to give this a miss. I've booked a summer school from 11th-17th August, and the Green Party Conference from 6th-8th September. I think taking another weekend out will not be popular with Jan.

Less than 2 weeks away now.  We are even considering extending our stay just to enjoy the peace and tranquility of an empty camping field on the Monday night.

Time to consider yet again creating a list of what I need to pack.  I always consider creating a list but as yet it remains a steadfastly mental exercise.

I started by thinking how light can I go - then I started adding the extras and the "luxuries" and I'm now worried that it'll be my heaviest load yet!

Online booking is now restored.  Go to www.gibraltarfarm.co.uk if you feel the need.   AIUI, walkers and cyclists are generally ok to roll up but car campers, caravanners and motorhomers should book to avoid disappointment.

We are booked for 5 nights from August 29th.  We'll be arriving mid-afternoon and hopefully pitching down the bottom of the field by the wall.

I am sorely tempted, and there's a good deal on tickets down, but lots of disruption for a return trip meaning no bike. Also, 5.5 hours train travel with three changes each way.

Oh, I know! But I am unenthused by the words "replacement bus service".

There are no transport options accepting bikes on the way back, and I'm not cycling to Aberdeen from Lancaster! I can't take that amount of time off work.

I'm still hoping to make this, as long as there are no more parental misadventures.    Current plan would be to get a local train up to Preston & then pick up the Lancaster canal & follow the towpath to Carnforth.  It's supposed to be mostly rideable.....    Long range weather looks changeable.

I'm still recovering from last weekend, and conspicuously lacking A Plan.  But that sort of thing hasn't stopped me before.

A look at the forecast suggests cooler and less stormy than last year with daily temperatures ranging between low double digits up to the top of the teens with some cloud cover.

We are planning to bring the gazebo to pitch between Castel Brecon and the tors bungalow.

Okay, since the weather's looking decent for the second half of the week I've resurrected last year's plan from before my bike broke.

Plan is to ride there over three days and train back.  I've booked a pitch.

I should probably do that Rohloff oil change...

I did a Rohloff oil change on my Behemoth last week or the week before. Are you aware that Rohloff are now recommending putting only 12.5ml of oil in after you've flushed it with cleaning oil? New policy as of last year, apparently.

I have a lifetime's supply of each type of oil as I bought a litre of each quite a few years ago. If you'd like me to send you some, let me know.

Yes, in as much that as a new Rohloff owner doing their first oil change I was unaware that there was a previous recommendation.

I've just ordered a second full kit, on the basis that then I'll have two syringe/hose sets and one can stay 'clean'.  I certainly won't say no to some oil, thobut.  That stuff costs almost as much as inkjet ink.

OK. PM me your address and I'll send you a couple of cylinders. Might be enough for two changes.

The weather forecast this year seems to be of a moderate nature.  For those who may not recall last year, it was the weekend of soaring temperatures followed by heavy storms.   I am very much looking forward to an unexciting weekend of average temperatures, clouds, light winds and very very little rain.  👍

The bit I dislike most about camping: clambering into the loft to retrieve everything for the trip.

Don't get me wrong: the loft is a well lit, properly floored zone but I just dislike lugging everything up and down the ladder.

Currently camped at the top of Mow Cop, which is a bastard hill to the north of The Famous Town Of Stoke On Trent. Dew point appears to be winning against wind. This site has an amazingly good facilities block, as evidenced by all the awards it's won.

Sounds idyllic.

I got news that Tors will not be able to join us unfortunately.  We will be there by around 4pm, perhaps earlier.  If possible we will probably pitch where we did last year.

Does anybody joining us need me to bring an extra Helinox for their use?  We have a couple of the Chair One variety as well as our glamping variants

Helluva descent from the looks of things.

Should we expect you this evening?

mllePB recalls Mow Cop as somewhere her father used to talk about as it used to have television transmitting guff up there.  The nuggets that stick in a child's brain, eh?  🤔

Dunno about TV but Mow Cop is certainly a famous hill.

I'm on my way, letting the train take the strain to Lancaster. Can't relax for worrying about the bike. First time travelling like this since the 80s and guards vans.
