Mutant chronicles

Surprisingly good, although there are plot holes you can drive a steam-powered airship through. Good steampunk stuff - steam-powered airships, steampunk guns.

Oh, just fun. Although I don't know how the heck this got a 15 rating - it's extremely gory, and not always in a funny way.

The Soul Eater.  Quite silly and a bit disjointed, but enjoyably atmospheric.

The Secrets in Their Eyes.  Argentinian thriller.  Retired investigator remembers/reinvestigates 25 year old rape & murder case.  Recommended.

Today I've watched:

The Exploding Girl
An American in China

and now watching God Killer. It's brilliant! Tis the best part of coding. Watching films lol.

Last night, Knowing. Hollywood really has a hard-on for 'end of times' religious claptrap at the moment.  ::-)

… and the CGI was appalling, I've seen better in a game.

Wall Street.

Hadn't seen it for years. Strangely, watching it now, the storyline seems far stronger than the 'excess'. Possibly because a lot of that excess was tied up in the technology, which of course now just looks dated - think brick-like mobile phone.

Mulholland Drive.

 :-\  :o

To be fair, after the first half hour I had the i-Pod on and was reading a book because I was so bored.  I looked up to see BOOBS everywhere.  Crusty seemed to like it though.

A bit too clever for me.

Just tell me a story, and tell it well.  Put in some explosions, massive natural disasters as a bonus, maybe a bit of science.  That'll do.

The original Airport (often claimed to be the first disaster movie).  Much better than the so-bad-they're-good sequels, and should really be seen in order to understand all the parodies in Airplane, e.g. the nuns.

Notes on a scandal, on BBC2 now.  Really good, Judy Dench is absolutely fantastic.

really really enjoyed
loved the way the story is told and the way it evolves over the decades

What a cracker of a film that is, one of the few films that I have lost count of how many times I have seen it – famously it lost out to Dances with Wolves for the best picture Oscar.

Did it? Crikey that's an appalling decision, Goodfellas is superb.

It’s not uncommon, the Academy Awards being a beauty contest rather than a measure of quality  – although I know nothing, I confidently expected Avatar to win best picture this year (not because I thought it was any good but because it had generated lots of business for the cinema and with a boost for 3D film technology, provided a possible counter to some industrial piracy/downloading).

I was very surprised when The Hurt Locker won instead, which I thought was an awful film, most especially the ‘bomb-disposal-experts-as-mavericks-on-the edge’ schtick which I imagine is as far from the truth as is possible.  Also, when your pacifist Quaker girlfriend criticises the military authenticity of a film, you know it’s really, really bad.

Apologies for drifting OT, in other news I saw First of the Few the other day for the first time, not quite sure how I got to be 40 and had not seen it yet.

Oil City Confidential : Dr Feelgood   (finally)

Before i watched it I knew 2 songs and the name 'Wilko', but I like most blues-rock-n-roll-whatever.

A good story, not quite the cliched rockumentary, but with some standard elements! i really like the interweaving of scened from B&W movies. And Wilko is a real character (too interesting to be an english teacher).

The disadvantage with these things is that you always finish wishing you'd been to see them in their pomp ...
