Not a film but my wife and I for the last week have been watching two episodes of Colditz each night which we've recorded.
Excellent acting and the variety of story lines, given that it's pretty much all in one place, is great.

Edge of Darkness (series).  BBC 1986.  Not seen it for many years, so that I'd forgotten most of details.  Very atmospheric, worth watching again.  Tim McInnery has changed a bit since then.

I finally got round to seeing Inception properly. It was actually surprisingly bad, Matrix-y stuff, which relied largely on rehreated sf ideas, technical gimmicks, star-turns and action set-pieces in place of character and plot development or anythign genuinely thought-provoking. Oh and the 'cliffhanger' at the end was the oldest and most predictable one in the book. Hollywood has done Christopher Nolan no favours.

Commando.  Formulaic plot and dialogue so wooden it makes HMS Victory look like Oscar Wilde.  But it's got loads of explosions an' killin's.  Someone with more time on their hands than is strictly good for them reckons that Arnie kills 81 baddies.

I have just discovered that a remake is in the pipeline, in which case the number of murdered studio executives will exceed the body count of the original by at least 30%.

Commando is a near-death experience if you play the Arnie drinking game.

Me, I've watched End of Evangelion and am now equally baffled, squicked and consumed by existential despair. Yay!
It takes blood and guts to be this cool but I'm still just a cliché.

I watched  that a few days ago, fantastic film!!
Then I was dragged to see Harry Potter... most boring film I've watched in years, closest I've ever come to walking out the cinema.

Harry Potter and the Everlasting Franchise.

Gods, that was dull!

Saw it on Saturday. I managed to stay awake for the duration but it's very unevenly paced. Loads of action in the first 20 minutes, then a long dull section interspersed with a few action sequences, then a non-ending. And for a film that's so long and only covers half the book, it's amazing how much detail they managed to leave out.1 It's more like a collection of loosely linked set pieces than a coherent story, and very much assumes that the viewer will be able to join the dots. Which is true for much of the audience, but that's not the point - it means that if you haven't read the book, the film must be very hard to follow.

I liked the animated shadow play though.

This weekend I saw the new Studio Ghibli "Ponyo" which is excellent.  Usual stuff about fish princesses but great characters, drama, fantastic artwork.  Recommended for kids and adults.  Ponyo | Now On Blu-ray & DVD  | Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment

Also saw "The Devil Wears Prada".  It started off ok but then nothing happened except the main protagonist is a stupid American.  Tame and lame.  Don't waste your time

I watched that yesterday too and loved it!   It's one of those films that i've seen bits of over the years, and thought I had seen it all but hadn't.  Isn't Cary Grant such a gentleman?

Last night I watched 'Beowolf' on Ch5........AWFUL!

OSS 117: Le Caire, nid d'espions (2006) - IMDb

Best Bond parody I've seen yet (although David Niven came pretty close). A pleasant surprise, as I can't recall enjoying any french comedies ever before! (it did have a faint trace of Carry On Spying, but that's OK ... )

Anyone seen the sequel? (Lost in Rio - 2009)

The Fifth Element.  Brain-buggeringly daft and as camp as a row of tents.  However, were Santa to give me a machine that could generate a fully-functional Milla Jovovitch in fifteen of your Earth minutes, I should not be disappointed.

Getting there...

I watched Avatar again. I was able to enjoy it more 2nd time around. I'd let my guard down and wasn't bothered by a good white man coming to lead the noble but savage natives fight against the greedy white man.
Halfway through Tron (will finish it tonight). It's been years since I've watched it. People had very strange thoughts on operating systems. Still it's nice to hear the sound of solid computer keyboard again. I'll have to watch Wargames again soon.
