The Tourist.

Simplistic and banal. Angelina Jolie glides through without a change of expression. Jonny Depp plays his age!  My god that's a shock to see him with wrinkles and saggy face bits. Good part.

Fun lightweight film.

Swordfish.  Deeply silly but loads of killin's an' splosions
Barbarella.  Woo!  What drugs were they on when they wrote that?

Not enough.  You have to be on drugs yourself to find it interesting for more than 5 minutes.

I'm not entirely sure why; I just kind of got sucked into it.  God, it's boring.

The Fellowship Of The Ring.

Mrs Z and I did a Beavis and Butt-Head and added a running commentary.  Still not sure whether Aragorn was right to plump for Liv Tyler rather than the blonde Rohan chick.  Personally, the pointy ears are a right turn-off (and Steven Tyler would almost certainly pop into your head at inopportune moments).  On the other hand, blonde chick has a very high forehead and doesn't look overly clean.

Also wondered why Saruman's powers don't extend to eagle-zapping and why, if the Balrog throws his toys out of the pram every time the orcs have a hoedown, the paths and bridges out of Moria weren't trashed a long time ago.

Hard work sometimes pays off in the end, but laziness ALWAYS pays off NOW.

I don't understand why they didn't just give the Ring to the eagles and get them to fly to Morrrrdorrrrrrrrrrrrr and drop it in the volcano.

Because it would have made a bloody boring story.

I've just been on two long haul flights, so have been forced to watch a number of films to stop my head exploding. However, watching them on a 6 inch screen is a good way to kill a film.

I watched.
Salt - OK
Inception - Will be brilliant when I re-watch it on a decent screen.
Killers - bloody awful

On the way back, choice was becoming limited.
Eat, Pray, Love - a chick flick lifted by the presence of Julia Roberts.
Going the distance - a chick flick lifted by the presence of Drew Barrymore
The Last Airbender - actually OK for a kids film, if you can ignore the slightly dodgy title.

Now that would have cut out 200-300 pages of battles.

See JRRT had seen the future, if he had written the book with that bit in. Firstly there might have be a chance that I would have read the book to the end, instead of me getting tired/bored after reading 50 + pages about Frodo waking through a forest. Secondly there would never have been three fantastic movies and the massive tourist industry in New Zealand.

See he is thinking ahead :)

I finished watching Walk The Line this afternoon, we turned it off a couple of weeks ago as it was getting late.
There was only five minutes left!

It was surprising to see him portrayed in such a negative light as I didn't know his background. Really enjoyed it.

Four Lions.  Funny and full of things that only Chris Morris could get away with, but a little disappointing for all that.  Not sure if he was aiming higher and missed or if he just didn't aim high enough.  Hard to believe he thought this was all that could be made of the subject.

OSS 117: Cairo, Nest of Spies

A French 007 spoof. Never heard of it before but came across it channel hopping last week. Very funny and the costumes and cinematography etc were brilliant, captured the feel of early Bond films perfectly.
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

Finally got round to watching The Damned United, which I've had knocking around for ages. Very good. The 12yo, who's too young to know anything about Brian Clough, was totally absorbed by it.

Was good, I thought. I was expecting less, after the last film, which I thought was poor. I also thought that Hermione was way better - not hamming it up like in previous outings.
It is simpler than it looks.

I don't understand why they didn't just give the Ring to the eagles and get them to fly to Morrrrdorrrrrrrrrrrrr and drop it in the volcano.

Because the Eagle in charge would have suddenly come over all nasty and started crapping on my car (and suchlike) instead of ditching said Ring.

It's a fairly intrinsic part of the story that it's a difficult thing to get rid of.

I've not seen the films for a while now but I may dig out Part 1 and re-watch the death of Boromir chapter.  I think it's a simply stunning piece of cinema (although it does start to cross into Monty Python's "Black Knight" ("tis but a scratch") territory)

I just watched "Bad Day and Black Rock".

I've seen various parts of it over the years but never sat down with the intention of watching it.

It really is very good.  A masterpiece of creating something from very little.

I read that it's supposed to say something about post-WWII/Cold-War America but that may be reading too much into it.

Amazing that she's one of the highest earning actresses in the world yet she can't act.

And, for the record, I wouldn't.  She looks too much like my sister at the same age  :hand:

Toy Story 3 is on .... again.

Andy's mom is pretty hot considering she must be, like, 45.

You have more of a problem with her being 45 than with her being a cartoon? Sick freak. ;)
