Ive not been out for a film in years except with the kids. This looks like a good film though Im on the fence when it comes to climate change, it would be interesting to hear what these hippy;s have to say about it though and there looks like cake could be involved

Just a quick reminder about the Pete Postlethwaite film "The Age of Stupid" that a group of us have organized at the Inspire Centre next Thursday, on the subject of climate change. We really want this to be a welcoming and enjoyable social occasion so we've sorted for there to be a cafe run by volunteers selling snacks before the showing and a discussion after it on what we thought of the film and how we can act on climate change both as individuals and communities. We'd love you to come and details are:

Date - Thursday, April 7th 2011

Time - 7pm screening but cafe from 6pm

Cost - £3 (to cover cinema hire, licence and publicity)

Venue - The Inspire Centre, 747 Stockport Road, M19 3AR

Hope you can make it!

Thanks!

Katherine

Easter Parade. Screened at the care home where what's left of my mum currently resides.

Great film.
There's no vibrations, but wait.

Megamind, which was somewhat silly, but enjoyable.

It's got some good humour, probably as not as much as it could have, but it's not too bad. It was certainly better than Despicable Me, which was adequately fun itself, and in a similar vein, but not as well done as Megamind.
Actually, it is rocket science.

Eden Log.

It's a cross between Pandorum and Silent Running. In French.

I had to look up the wikipedia entry afterwards to see what it was about.

Great film.

How weird that a Jew, Irving Berlin, wrote songs about the two most important Christian festivals and focused on a hat and the weather.

Tonight's entertainment is "Lucky Number Slevin", might finish watching "The Green Hornet" later, should really be out on the bike, but R&R are more important right now :)

He was far from the only Jewish guy to have written contemporary Christian songs...

Cave of Forgotten Dreams

Definitely not an action movie.

dang interesting if you are into art. These caves have been sealed away for 10's of thousands of years.

They contain, amongst other things;

A drawing of a minotaur

Cubisim, in the early picasso sense.

Marmite slave

Inception.

It was OK - I'm not sure what all the fuss was about, really. It wasn't that hard to follow, or especially clever. A diverting couple of hours, and certainly more involving than something like Transformers II, but that's about it.

Charlie Wilson's War. Again.

I'll keep watching this - until we wake up to what we've done to ourselves. Fucking hell. For a supposedly intelligent species - we sure are thick sometimes.

Back and Forth, about the Foo Fighters, going right back to Nirvana.

Followed by a playthrough of the new album, Wasting Light.

A very good night at the pictures

Eagle Eye. Reminded me of the videogame Portal, set in contemporary Washington.

Half decent tech thriller, provided you ignore the rediculous premise. Although I suspect if I hadn't have been in the mood for something easy, I might have come to a harsher view.

The Gumball Rally, which whilst not bad, I don't think is quite as good as the later Cannonball Run (both films being loosely based on the early 1970s actual Cannonball Baker Sea-To-Shining-Sea Memorial Trophy Dash). It's a long time since I originally saw either film, but I think The Cannonball Run wins out through really not taking itself at all seriously, and being just that little bit more zany.

On the plus side, The Gumball Rally does have the classic quote by Raul Julia playing Franco Bertollini;

And now my friend, the first-a rule of Italian driving.
What's-a behind me is not important.

Made whilst ripping the rear view mirror off of the windscreen and throwing it away. It's a little more amusing since Raul Julia is actually Puerto Rican, and not Italian!

Gumball ...
Actually, it is rocket science.

Let Me In

Remake of the Swedish film, a contemporary coming of age film about a bullied boy and a peculiar girl who turns out to be a vampire.

If you like vampire films you will love this, I thought it was a brilliant film, may even watch it again tomorrow night.

Watch the Swedish version.

Let the Right One In

The Swedish version as recommended by itsbruce.
Wish I'd seen this one first, both films are excellent, both with great soundtracks too.
Just bought the (second-hand) paperback from Play.com for £2.76

Quite fun, you can think past the plot-holes into the wtf ending.

The Proposition - with Ray Winstone and Guy Pearce. (on telly a few weeks ago)

Somewhat grim, but overall quite enjoyable. (Does Winstone ever get jolly parts? Apart from ones where he is violent and jolly, that is.)

Oh and a cracking small part for John Hurt.
