Yeh but you can have a nice pint or two at the Cricketers in Weston before finishing. The fire was going last year, lovely.

It's looking like it might be a bit blowy on Sunday.  If so, we might need to set out 15 minutes earlier.

Looks like we now have three sets of tiny tires (1 x 16" and 2 x 20"). Should be able to annoy the carbon bling whilst having small wheeled fun along the way.

Is there a track for the event itself?

Me and Himself will be riding out. It may very well be 50km each way....

Get the track off the Central London maps linked on the Emitremmus page.

The ride out to the Emitremmus will be into a 30kph headwind – it would be magic if it wasn't!  But the return should be fun  ;)

Little wheels ahoy!  After fboab's comments, I am quite looking forward to it  :demon: ;D

Having ridden this twice I think I will wear full body armour and fit knives to my hubs like a chariot.

There were moments last year that didn't do cycling any favours. Not long into the ride, a group of club riders (clearly wearing their testosterone for all to see, "FOR WE ARE MEN"...) were overtaking the main line of riders, including us on a tandem. They were, needless to say, on the wrong side of the road. Some poor fucker in a flat-bed truck was driving the other way - hand on horn (no, not that one, the noisy one) with a rather desperate look on his face.

We felt the Knob:ActualCyclist ratio too unfavourable on this one. But - it may have all been down to the Wiggo effect, and this year the club riders might return to their usual Sunday runs. I hope you all have a good ride. We're going North of The Wall to mix it up with the Wildlings and the Picts.

Well we found out tonight that the sighted pilot for Siobhan my blind stoker's fiancée has let her down. If anyone fancies piloting a tandem around the 101km course with a blind lady stoker, then let me know. She was so looking forward to riding her second audax.

I could do that, if it's anywhere near the right size (I'm 5' 8.5" and ride a 21.25" or so C-T frame in old money). If I read it correctly, you've got two tandems and just need a pilot for one? Few years since I rode a tandem, mind.

Thanks for both offers. I've taken Wilky boy up on his offer. Sean's really pleased and I'm sure Siobhan will be when she finds out tomorrow. They so love going out on the tandems and enjoying the freedom and sensations we take for granted.

I'm properly excited!

(But it does mean I won't be on little wheels on the ride  :-[  But I will on the way there and back  :))

Weather forecast is looking...interesting...for this one. 80mph? That's a bit breezy, as Carol would say on BBC Breakfast.
Have fun guys!

40-60mph forecast for that area through the day on Sunday. If that forecast is still valid tomorrow night, we're out. :(

Likely to be a long slow ride home for us, straight into the headwind.

We get the headwind on the way there, so we may be a bit lacklustre around the course, but then we should have a 40+kph tailwind all the way back home!!

Just in: plans change, I am back on little wheels.  I am disappointed not to be riding a long-wheelbase, but looking forward to little-wheeled fun instead.

Siobhan sends her thanks for the offer, but she just didn't feel confident doing 101km with someone she hasn't ridden with before. Myself and Sean will be out on the blue and yellow tandem.  Just got back from fixing p****e on the tandem. Hope that's it for the weekend.

Registered for the Lite ride with a mate, but I'm not risking riding in winds gusting up to 40mph, it's just too unsafe.  :(

My reading is that the gusts are forecast for Sunday night, and we'll be off the road long before that weather comes. What do others make of it?

Strong winds throughout the day with gusts in mid-30s to 40s later in the afternoon. Late Sun evening onwards winds becoming *very* strong indeed, but hopefully Audaxers all over the southern UK will have finished their rides by then.

This is the forecast for Stansted, issued at 6pm this evening:

EGSS 261705Z 2618/2724 20014KT 9999 SCT025 PROB40 TEMPO 2618/2622 4000 RA BKN014 BECMG 2618/2621 20015G25KT TEMPO 2622/2701 6000 RA BKN014 PROB40 TEMPO 2623/2701 23025G35KT 4000 +RA BKN009 BECMG 2700/2703 21015KT PROB40 TEMPO 2705/2709 4000 +SHRA +TSRA BKN009 BKN025CB BECMG 2709/2712 24018G30KT BECMG 2715/2718 22015KT BECMG 2721/2724 16015G25KT 6000 RA BKN008 TEMPO 2722/2724 3000 +RA BKN002

The important stuff: between 9am and midday the wind will increase to 18kts (35kmh) southwesterly, gusting 30kt (58kmh). It will gradually ease from 3pm towards 6pm, backing towards the south and steady at 15kt (30kmh). The worst winds and rain are before the ride starts. There is still some uncertainty as to the track of the low pressure system, but this is the most accurate forecast available for now. It's strong enough for me to not want to put my son through it, so we're going to DNS.
