Trying to find a padlock to fit an equipment case. Why don't the manufacturers or even specialist websites make it easy to see from the specs what the shackle diameter is, and how long the straight bit of the shackle is? They typically just list the height between the highest point of the shackle and the body, plus the width of the lock without spending ages digging. Some do allow you to filter by shackle diameter, but I'm spending ages trying to find something I thought would takes seconds to sort out (it's a small Max case, so will only fit a 5mm shackle - which is somewhat limiting if trying to avoid Chinese locks only designed for use indoors - but also needs about 18mm straight on the shackle when closed, which is hard to see what does and doesn't have that without going to stupidly long ones). Think I've found a reasonable Abus one now, but it shouldn't have been this hard.

Saturday: neighbour A mows his lawn, then neighbour B mows his lawn, then neighbour C mows his lawn, then neighbour D mows his lawn, then neighbour E mows his lawn, then neighbour F mows his lawn, then neighbour G mows his lawn...  I wish the buggers would synchronize and do them all at the same time.

Why do chain reaction use EVRI?  Cos my parcel has been out for delivery for days and not made it to me.

Insult to injury is the texts and emails being sent to say the parcel delivery is running late and should be with me at 21...and the emails arrives at 22!

Planetx used to be terrible but now use fedex, and parcel arrived within time slot...
The problem is that the recipient of the parcel is not the customer of the delivery company, the retailer is. As long as the carrier remains cheap and the retailer remains ignorant of the delivery issues no change will occur.

Evri, is the new name for hermes.  Hermes were terrible, so how to improve the consumer perception...make the service better?  Of course not just change the name so the consumer doesn't know they are getiing hermes.  Worst bit is waiting and waiting then getting emails that the package won't be turning up an hour after the time slot.  Best one is the parcel was delivered then getting emails and texts about delays and tha package will be there tomorrow.

We always had good experience with Hermes. Cheery wife and husband team.

I must be old because I don’t nee pd everything I order delivered within 24h. Delayed gratification is better than no gratification.

That said my shoe sage continues, replacement pair is a week into Evri expecting. Let’s hope not the full nine months.

Dear bands wot I would like to see live,

Please stop filling your calendar with festivals.  If I wished to listen to your music badly delivered1 whilst standing knee deep in mud & chinese takeaway, well, I'd have bought a bathtub full of chinese takeaway, packed a set of airline earpods and gone camping this weekend.  I hear Etherly farm is suitably moist.

What I seek is unadulterated you at your best delivered over an earsplitting sound system crafted by the finest sound engineers.  In the dry2.

Thanks.

So fuck the festivals right off and lets have more gigs.  Please.

1Probably perfectly well played and perfectly well electronically delivered to the speaker banks but with no roof on the place, soft to quagmire underfoot and an uncontrollable number of sound absorbing meatsacks in the field there really is feck all chance of good quality audio delivery.
2Squelchy carpets notwithstanding.

Planet X/Plazma: Your compact twin headlight is very good value and easy to fit. I'm looking forward to checking out its performance. HOWEVER, for the time being I'd only be using it on flashing mode, as it's post-Equinox. You offer two flashing modes: 1) An epileptic fit-inducing one that will have all sufferers within a 500m range triggering; and 2) SOS. Now, not everyone recognises that morse code, but I do, and I'm not using it.

I tried synchronising once.
The neighbour who was mowing his lawn stops.  Then starts up again after I'm done  ::-)

Someone cheerfully strimming a lovely blooming verge, poppies and all. Her verge of course, but I think slamming on the brakes, reversing, and running her over was a proportionate response.

Spent a lovely weekend in South/Mid Wales in the camper, on some lovely sites. I'm quite happy to pay for car parks when we visit a village rather than being cheapskate and trying to find on-road parking; typically a pound an hour or so is fine.

So in Aberaeron, went to the public car park about 5pm on Sunday. Almost nothing in it, but the cafe is open so opportunity for an ice cream and a wander round for an hour. Went to the pay and display machine - £3:40 for 2 hours. Bit steep, but OK. Then saw that was for cars only. £6:80 for two hours for a car and caravan. For campers/vehicles converted for sleeping the only option is £9 for 24 hours. But you aren't allowed to actually sleep in them. WTF? We headed off elsewhere instead.

Little vectors of disease is how they’re known in this household. They have also been known as transporters of mobile dandruff, but that seems to be less of a problem if you don’t have regular close contact with them.

Splendid use of the town council's funds with a new sign here in Stratford-upon-Avon . . . just in case you can't see the ferry.

I'm surprised there isn't a second sign warning that there are couple of steps down to the landing stage

That is metres, not miles

I have had my photo taken at work. Unannounced. For the Organogram on the new! rebranded! website.

I'd've brushed my hair if I'd known. This 'do' is post-bike-post-swim-post-bike-straight-outta-bed FFS.

In other news- surely I'm not the only one who uses photos like this to, well, mock mercilessly the poor beggers in the pictures?

Dear The BBC

Is the Eurovision Cheese Contest really the world’s most important news story today?

Me, I don’t think so.

It seems to have been the most important news story since the coronation rain finished.

I was wondering why they were making so much fuss about it, but belatedly realised it's because the UK - and presumably therefore a decent chunk of the BBC itself - is responsible for hosting it.

Manufacturers of twin and earth cable, it's been over 50 years and a change of colours since the wiring regulations demanded sleeving on the earth wires, so why isn't it built into the cables. The extra faffing that the loose bits of sleeving adds would be removed, making the marginal extra cost worthwhile.

Professional electrician who has done some wiring on my house, it was only 3 lights and a fan in the bathroom, with a single pull-cord switch. The fan needs permanent power as well as switched. There's a shaver socket as well, and cable from the fuseboard and a cable leading to the bedroom lights. Nothing too difficult, but you managed to connect switched power to both connections on the fan, use three 4-way junction boxes when two would have been fine, not use the cable clamps in the junction boxes correctly, loose a screw from the lid of a junction box, fit a single terminal block to extend a wire inside a junction box instead of stripping a bit more sheathing (in two places) and join two earth wires by twisting only, hiding the evidence inside the earth sleeving.

I realise that I am under qualified* to comment on someone who does wiring for a living and has the part P training.

One of my minion's headshots looks the Darren/MODOK from Antman, so I 'shopped him into the actual thing and added him to the org-chart. It's still amusing other people several months later. I do my bit.
