woodlice in my compost heap

...is it good or bad?  There's always been cheesy bugs in the compost heap (it's about 6 years old now) but I noticed today there are hundreds and hundreds of them.  Very bizarre.

Woodlice will eat the woody stuff you put in there, so I guess it's not a bad thing...

Does that mean it's too dry?   Try adding more grass, or even watering it.

Any creatures that make holes, fluff up the material, and then die and add to the mix, are a good thing.

Woodlouseses like damp. Anyway I reckon they're a good thing in a compost heap as they will consume the more woody items.
This isn't just a thousand to one shot. This is a professional blood sport. It can happen to you. And it can happen again.

I'll have to give it a good stir - could be a very crunchy layer!

Thanks all, I won't worry about them.

Piss into your compost heap about once a fortnight. That helps everything rot down nicely.

I keep suggesting to my other half that he could do that to help, but he's not enthusiastic!  Maybe instead of potty training the littlun, I could compost train her...
