Mr Sainsbury’s House of Toothy Comestibles appeared to be playing ersatz versions of Crimbletunes just now.
Not so my local branch. I had to put up with what seemed like the original version of Driving Home For Christmas, and to make matters worse the bloke near me in the wine aisle was intoning along with it.

Survived a trip to Mr Sainsbury's Emporium of Toothy Comestibles un-Whammed, quite possibly because the crowd density[1] was such that I wouldn't have been able to hear it even if they had played it.

Astoundingly, they still had semi-skilled lactose-free milk.

[1] Which necessitated going and rescuing a trolley from the car park.  It's never been that busy before.

Shittens!  They just played it on the Six O'Clock News, and I didn’t manage to reach the mute button in time.

Does it count if it was apparently played when a group of you were in the room, but you are too deaf to have heard it (or indeed any of the music that was apparently playing) yourself?

I haven't been to Sainsbury's. Instead I went to Lidl, which a) is next to a train station, 2) is cheaper, iii) was not crowded, D) does not play tunes. Still in, despite two pub visits in one week (which is about equal to my total for the rest of the year).

By the way, I've been informed that the Younger Generation play Mariah Carey-pocalypse instead.

Well, for me, it was MrsH not insisting on putting on a Christmas playlist when we had my eldest over for our normal Christmas-eve lunch yesterday. That's a big enough win for me!

I still haven’t heard it, despite listening carefully on the very few occasions I might have encountered it.

By the way, I've been informed that the Younger Generation play Mariah Carey-pocalypse instead.

I'm sure it used to be Fairytale of New York that we were supposed to avoid.  (Which is good advice generally, as it often functions as an excuse for rowdy homophobia.)  Hence the term 'Pogue-rolling'.

Avoiding Mariah Carey is a whole other level, on account of her ability to cut through crowd noise with superhuman warbling.
