One of the greats.  Mike Brearley's observation was particularly perceptive.  "Of all the slow bowlers of Bedi's time, none forced you to commit yourself later than he did...The error of judgment induced in the batsman could be as much as a yard in length and a foot in width. And he could make these changes according to what he sensed the batsman was trying to do, in the moment of delivery, so firm and balanced were his action and rhythm"

Somewhere amongst my treasured possessions is a book of sporting quotes, by Frank Keating. It was a Christmas present some 50-odd years ago. In it, there is a quote from Bishan Bedi which is along the following lines: "I am not unhappy to be hit for six sixes, as only when he is playing his shots can I get a batsman out!"

He was a very fine bowler from a team with some excellent spin bowlers in it.

Mention the name and I instantly go back [again] to the 1970's.....and hours spent during the summer holidays watching cricket on TV.
He had such a beautifully relaxed approach to the wicket and bowling action.
