He also got the party elected and in power for 13 years.  The only 13 years in 44 years.

During which time he cemented in business's power over ordinary people with more privatisation and anti-trade union legislation.

Ah, the old dichotomy, proper Labour vs more generally palatable Labour. IMO only the latter has a snowballs chance of getting in to power, but under Starmer? Yeuch.

Very much this
He didn't need to start the butchering of the NHS in the process though.  Bastard
But also this. (and academies, and tuition fees, and that little thing in Iraq...).

It's depressing that there are people (including on here) who continue to regard the (partial) record of somebody who hasn't been leading the Labour Party for 16 years as a valid reason for depriving that party of their vote in the coming election and thereby almost certainly perpetuating the appalling situation we have now.  The people who are hardest hit by the situation certainly won't be thanking these "purists" for their supposed nobility.  "What did you vote in the election, Daddy?"  "Erm ..."

@peter, I think there' a different point on the Likert scale here, as opposed to a Boolean choice.
Blair had a number of faults and made some significant errors, many of them unforced and unnecessary.
He was also the best PM in my lifetime.
The consequences of his mistakes make it harder to explain to a new generation why Labour are better than the Conservatives (while it remains clear that they are less worse).

So "less worse" should be what we bang on about, rather than past errors.  We are not voting for a past government.

The problem remains our parliamentary system of first past the post, a system that favours the group that suppresses or absorbs its close competitors and whose supporters more readily accept what they are told. An opposition that is more liberal in its views and practically encourages debate is going to be more fragmented and thus unlikely to have a single party.

Why the Labour Party continue to support FPTP is a mystery yet to be resolved.
For every complex problem in the world, there is a simple and easily understood solution that’s wrong.

I should like to point out that at the last Labour conference the motion to support PR was passed.  The leaders might not be fully onboard yet but the pressure will grow from within.

Child poverty also. It’s almost like they don’t actually care and would much rather have a government they can angry about.

I no longer post on twitter but my account is still visible.

I know not whether gullible airhead Petronella Wyatt has graced this thread yet and CBA to check but her averral that:

Being thick doesn’t make you a ST candidate, but repeatedly demonstrating it in public probably does.

Eeew. Thanks for that image.
