Photos from my Dales ride 24 April 2010

I went for a ride up the Dales today.  102 miles with 2825 metres of climbing.  It was a lovely ride and I took some photos, something I don't usually do, but I thought the weather today would make it worthwhile.  Here they are, as follows:

A view of Lindley Wood reservoir and the mast on top of Norwood Edge

After climbing Norwood Edge, you get views of Menwith Hill listening station

I rode on through Blubberhouses and Greenhow, and then headed for Grassington, seen in the distance in this photo:

From Grassington I turned up Wharfedale, passing Conistone Bridge and Kilnsey Crag

Then through Arncliffe and up Littondale, seen here:

A view looking back down Littondale from just beyond Halton Gill

A view looking back at Halton Gill as I climbed away from it

First view of Penyghent on the Halton Gill to Stainforth road:

Penyghent from Dale Head

Before reaching Stainforth, I turned left for Malham, eventually getting a glimpse of Malham tarn:

I then descended into Malham, passing close to the Cove:

And here's a view looking down into Malham

Stopped for a breather in Malham and took a photo of  my bike:

Carried on to Airton and then turned left for Hetton and Cracoe.  Beyond Cracoe I turned off right towards Thorpe and Burnsall, and here's a view looking towards Grassington in the distance:

Round here you certainly know you're in limestone country:

Rode on through Burnsall and Appletreewick to Bolton Abbey, where I crossed the River Wharfe:

Turned off the A59 to Beamsley, and then up the Langbar climb, pictured here:

A great day out, and one that made me feel very lucky that all this lovely scenery is within 50 miles of where I live.

Nice pictures andrew nothing that I haven't seen before of course. I came across a stunning view yesterday, made me exclaim out loud ! I rode the Long Causeway from Denholme to Oxenhope for the first time and just before the descent to Oxenhope  was a superb of the town in the valley. I wish I'd had had my camera, but I can always go back there.

Thanks.  Yes, it pretty well was the White Rose Classic/Challenge "midi" route, exept that I started from home in Leeds, and I took the main road from Blubberhouses to Greenhow, rather than the West End diversion.  It is an excellent route, and it was a great day for it last Saturday too.
