Johnny Hoogerland
« on: 12 July, 2011, 04:50:53 pm »
This guy is surely the new Tour hero. Must be worth a separate thread?!?

Pinched from the other one:
Hoogerland has 33 stitches, 11 in his buttocks, 11 near his knee, and 11 in his calf.
The stitches in his knee are very close to a tendon. He hopes these stitches will not cause him to DNS in the next stage.
His pants were completely ripped off. Maybe that's the reason there was no TV coverage of him getting out of the barbed wire.

A not very nice picture, but shows his injuries. Ouch

I can't find a video of his post-race interview (shown on ITV4) bit it was really moving: "Nobody means to do something like this". Wow.

Genuine tears on the podium, continuing despite 'orrible injuries, and astonishing compassion; is this guy for real?!? A great athlete and a gentleman.

"He certainly is Phil!" Sorry, wrong thread.

He certainly did show a huge amount of restraint.

Plus earlier: he carried on racing!

Just imagine what state you'd be in, waking up the following morning!!

In years to come, that 'arse' shot will be printed in books to show just how driven the racers continue to be, and how hard this particular race can prove to be.

Certainly never seen cycling south of Sussex

He is a flipping legend. Didn't show any outward signs of suffering on the climbs today, even though he must still be pretty damn sore.

Yep. Hero.  He must be hurting, so I hope he manages to keep hold of the Polka dot Yacf jersey for a few days more

+1, though for added authenticity, shouldn't the t-shirt be a bit er... "distressed"?  ;)

+1 more, at least. Given the success of the recent Weylandt multi-buy should we do another? Checking the website it doesn't seem to be available to buy just yet...
What's this bottom line for anyway?

I am so getting one of those! I could understand the sentiment behind the WW shirts but I found it just too sad... this is more of a celebration of the spirit of the bike racer.

Surely it should be a Johnny Hoogerland shorts multibuy ?
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

Spare a thought for Juan-Antonio Flecha, who also demonstrated himself to be pretty nails yesterday.  IIRC at one point he looked like he was attacking, although it could have just been a misidentification on the part of the colemantators.

Fletcha has my utmost admiration - to just get back on the bike is a really amazing achievement. Fletcha t-shirt anyone?

I reckon he's faking the extent of his injuries and is going to spring a big attack today :)
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

The only thing capable of stopping him (that wooden fencepost) is apparently due to be auctioned!
