Riding along on the tandem with my son recently, he mentioned casually, I just saw a £20 note. He didn't sound very excited about it so I thought for a second, then decided not to leave it to chance: sure enough there it was !

Ah yes, we found some hedgerow grumble the other day.
Except it was in the middle of the street.
Outside the doctor's.
???
the really annoying thing was that I saw a brand new left hand glove that looked my size near Penzance - and then saw a matching right hand glove when we got near Fort William ... if only I'd picked up the first one

Found this on yesterdays ride. Unfortunately I had forgotten to take my own phone, so could not take a picture 'in situ'. The phone , a Samsung S111 mini,(apparently), was discarded in a hedge, with the back of the phone closed up. On retreiving said phone I thought...hmmm, that feels light. Sureenough 5 yds away was the battery on the pavement. Now the question, why was the phone closed up, but missing the sim and battery. If you pinched the phone, then found it was locked to network, and disconnected, then you'd just lob the lot without reassembling!!.
anyway, its a S.. S111 mini, , with a slight crack to the screen, no sim, AFAIK its not locked to any network, as I tried unlocking it, but it says 'not active' which means its not locked.... ::-) Wifi works fine, has an sd card (i think) , and it takes a big sim. Mne is a med one so wont work in it, so I cant try it out. no numbers locked in contacts etc etc......, and the charger lead is same as my Nokia :)

Not on my ride (I was walking), but someone else's I presume: a copy of "South East Mountainbiking, Ridgeway & Chilterns" by Nick Cotton. Wrapped in a clear plastic bag so largely dry and usable. Found on the bridleway which runs N-S through the Wormsley estate near Ibstone/Stokenchurch, one of my favourite rides.

Was riding in this morning, alongside the A2, when I notice cars on the main 3 lane carriageway, swerving all over the place, then I saw this in the MIDDLE lane. I was thinking what would happen if a M/bike had hit it, , so I jumped off Olive, crossed 2 seperate sliproads, and out into the middle carraigeway, and dragged it all back to the hardshoulder twixt the 2 slip roads. Within 5 mins a plod car drove up, and I flagged him down. I told him the sequence of events, and he said '' fair play to you for doing that, but 'we don't have facilities for lost property' says he, ' with any luck they'll realise its missing and come back for it. Ah says I, but look where its situated, bit dodgy someone reversing up a slip road, ....'OK we'll sort it, you be on your way,...and thanks. ::-)
ps, I could add that ' they were only Carrera bikes, but then I might be called a ''Halfordist!'', and that would never do.!! :)
And that was yesterday? You've clearly got a lot more ice/lower temperatures than here, thus proving that Birmingham is in The North.
More interestingly, you've got ironing witches. Now that is a curious phenomenon!

Complete with all the unused (bar one) drill bits, works well , this one, it does.
I'm now getting a bit worried,as I'm finding bigger things tan I used too. There will come a point where I will have to 'hide' my find, for later vehicular retrieval.
You know those yellow and black striped pencils we had in the 80s? One of those. Well-chewed so, again, I didn't stop.

It's a celebration of international Women's day: a witch's hat overlooking an iron that has been symbolically discarded.Which failed due to the lack of electric power points on the canal bank.
Or a failed attempt to thaw the ice.
Neither iron nor hat were there today (as far as I could see) but there's still a fair amount of ice, albeit very broken up and patchy. And a coconut. Two if you count the other one on the other canal too. Sign of Spring?

Ahhh!!! litter picking, for the use of, it is.If the iron wasn't ironic, that is.

I found a discarded cigarette packet, while I pulled over to adjust my gears (new cables bedding in). There was a price label on it: "£8.35p" Fucking hell. I wish I could give up smoking. You'd pay for n+1 in no time.

If you still smoke, how come you were surprised by the price? Surely you pay this every day/other day?

The pedant in me spots a missing decimal point...
...unless smoking is MUCH more expensive than I believed!
Blimey. I remember when 20 Number 6 cost 1d each. 1/10 for a pack of 20.The pedant in me spots a missing decimal point...

£8.35 for 20 is within the same order of magnitude as 200 for £107, or 1 for slightly over 50p. Hence my surprise.

BTW, when did actual real police stop manning the front desks at police stations?
In central London, the only two stations I can think of are Charing Cross (assume open 24/7, considering location) and one near Holborn.
Do I win?

David found a carrier bag in our front hedge, containing two fresh loaves of bread, a box of olives and a box of freshly fried pork scratchings from the local Romanian supermarket.I do hope you ate them, and didn't throw it all away!
Beats us why these were dumped! The bread smelt really fresh!

I'd forgotten that bit. It's basically a movie of random feel-good moments, isn't it? But there's the cyclist in the treasure box, of course, and the man's recollection of the specific Tour stage when he finds the treasures in the phone box (I looked for that scene on Youtube but didn't find it).

Morris dancing, is a form of traditional dance where men in costume dance while banging sticks together. The really clever guy is given the task of getting it 'wrong' deliberately and not getting clouted over the head or in the groin in the process.
I'm sorry if this is obvious to you but you will also note the left end of the stick is bound. I suggest this is Blodwyn's practice stick.

I don't know. D's not played with it much yet. Checked it electrically and found a suitable cable to connect it with other kit. Says mains buzz is only audible in absence of music. D's hearing is MUCH more sensitive than mine, which is basically fine.I assume it's an active sub-woofer, i.e. one with a main cable.
D found a discarded oil painting of tulips a few weeks ago. It's on the wall in our hallway. The blue swivel chair in D's office is another roadside find.

Are there any succulents that hang over the edge?
When I was small, we had a tumble drier mounted on top of the washing machine in the downstairs loo. For reasons that probably made sense to my mum, a triffid like that lived in a (plastic) pot on top of the tumble drier. Every now and then a combination of dry soil and the spin cycle would cause it to jump off and attack a vulnerable toilet-user.

They don't usually take pressurised canisters, even if empty.
How do you do that, please? I'm wondering if something similar might be possible with empty butane-propane camping gas cylinders so they can be scrapped/recycled.

Our normal recycling bin will accept empty aerosol cans. A camping gas cartridge is basically the same thing...Probably not in the eyes of the binbods.
They recycle them by crushing, so residual gas could be an issue. What is in aerosol propellants these days, still butane?Could puncture the can, to make sure it is empty.

All of these were my thoughts, though wary of hitting it with a nail and causing a spark somehow. Anywayz, I have 16g still to use up – that's about three cups of tea! They recycle them by crushing, so residual gas could be an issue. Can get a Jetboil Crunchit tool designed for this. Or just hit it with a nail or axe.
On the diving cylinders and the NO2 cylinders, the valve is screwed in. I've taken the precaution of blowing into them and then feeling the air come back out, simply to prove to myself that the valve is open and not broken jammed closed. Then it's just a case of unscrewing the valve. How do you do that, please? I'm wondering if something similar might be possible with empty butane-propane camping gas cylinders so they can be scrapped/recycled.

Oh, I found a full-length mirror last week. But it only half counts, because I was on the Brompton on the way to collect a hire car, and cunningly used the car to pick it up[1] on the way back.
[1] For reasons explained by Generation Rent rather than vampirism, we live in a house with no mirrors. This isn't normally a problem, but barakta would benefit from one for her physioterrorism exercises.

That's very tempting, though they're sufficiently lovely that I'd be worried that I'd ruin them in the first 5 minutes through overenthusiastic use of clamps, incompetent power tool depth stop adjustment or miscellaneous unplanned combustion.
Of course, once that's over and done with, you soon stop worrying about it.
A Gazelle is not a BSO. Somebody will be missing that.

So, did you rescue the Dawes?
So, did you rescue the Dawes?
No, I didn’t, it was quite schmall, I’m guessing 24” wheels, a yoof’s machine, ( google suggests 1998 vintage Giro 300) and I guessed I would have no use for it, and neither would anyone else. Had a double chainset, and a quill stem. It was gone next day.
