12V greenhouse heater ?
« on: 15 November, 2020, 11:12:48 am »
I want to use a car battery to power a heater for frost prevention in greenhouse...
I'd like something I can move into the camper van too when I go away.

I can find a couple of dashboard mounted blowers which might work.
Anyone recommend a suitable solution ?

Usual Google search only revealls extremely expensive solar panel model or 240V

There's a reason for that.  Consider the amount of energy in a car battery, and how long it will run such a heater for.

Yeah, even one of the larger leisure batteries contains at most one kilowatt hour. That's completely useless for heating up any space for any length of time.

If you can target the heat where it really needs to be, like those dashboard things or electric blankets / heated jackets / gloves / etc you can get away with far lower wattages and have a far longer runtime, but still very much not great. I'm not sure that can be applied to either of your intended applications.
