Does this mean we'll all be able to have a gawk at the inside of the Basil Burg?
Probably not. "Heno" is a sort of Welsh "One Show" magazine program. So it is likely to only be a very short piece.  At best, you'll get a shot of our fireplace and her bum.
Admission.  I'm actually not that fussed about cake.

Right then.  See if you can arrange some ornaments on the mantelpiece in the shape of a CDC or something.

Which reminds me, isn't it Christmas logo season?

Or just dress up as some sort of naught Christmas chimney sweeping elf (black stockings, black mini-kilt, etc) and talk about how thrilled you are to have an enormous brush shoved up your chimney.  ::-)

Mindful of the fact that accommodation in Northern Climes sells out very quickly, Miss von Brandenburg has just booked next June's trip to Shetland!  There will be Vikings, and puffins.  Oh yes!

Hope she enjoys, I've only ever been to Shetland in winter, with conditions best described as "hold on to the island if you don't want to go to Bergen"

I have become entitled to a six-week paid sabbatical to be taken at some point before I retire, due to a new policy for old stagers with > 25 years' service.
This place gives 4 weeks every 4 years.

Well, that was (sort of) fun.  I did make a hurried but rather poor effort at a CDC with stuff that was immediately to hand. It's at the far end of the mantelpiece.  Hopefully, the camera will have picked it up better than I have here.

Further good news.  Not only did I get my chimney swept for free, but I will be receiving a cheque for "Disturbance Fee".  The presenter who told me about it was unable to tell me how much it will be.  I doubt it will be more than about £20.

Megan wasn't bothered.

Well that's good. Did the TV crew leave any interesting gear behind?  ;)

I watched them trying to film an episode of a tv serial on the harbour wall pier at Aberaeron a few years back.  Everytime they went to a take the rain started wanging down and this repeatedly, for most of the day.

Forget the commercial milking and fairy stories we are forced to endure at this time of year, today the real midwinter festivities commence:

Today in the earliest sunset.
The shortest day is on the 21st.
Jan 1 marks the latest sunrise.

You'll find me in ye pubbe raising a glass or two to the evenings drawing out from here on.

Although I knew the dates (approx), I could never remember which way round the earliest sunset and latest sunrise were.

So thanks.

The Nice People at Richer Sounds phoned up to tell me the price on the violently-reduced loudsqueakers I ordered the other day was Wrong, and they have therefore refunded me fifty quid.  I promptly celebrated by buying the complete works of Bongzilla from Bandcamp.

More good news.
The chimney sweeping will be free.  :D

Right. Better get the vacuum cleaner out and start tidying up a bit.   ;)
This may be the first time I've known anyone vacuum BEFORE the chimney sweep turns up!

Nice story - and I love that pic of Megan :)

My son found out this morning that he's been accepted onto the Teach First training scheme - deferred until he finishes uni (he's currently in his second year). Proper proud dad moment.

I'd somehow never heard of Teach First until he told me he'd applied but it sounds like a fantastic opportunity - though I understand not without its controversial aspects. Anyone here either been through TF themselves or worked in education with TF recruits? Would be interested in some first-hand perspectives.
